New Owner... (almost)

We are looking to replace our nine-year-old 32' Colorado by Thor/Dutchman in the next two weeks. We have been searching for two months.

DW and I have narrowed it down to a 32' Big Horn and a 32' Columbus. I am leaning towards the Columbus. I use my fifth wheel as an office/residence while on the road an average of seven months per year. I am mostly alone on the road, but the DW does join me for a few weeks at a time (vacation, summer break) as she is a teacher and I am an insurance adjuster.

The old coach was a mid-profile, 30 amp, one a/c unit with 2006-level quality and insulation. It has been a good unit, but with the kiddos grown and gone, we are looking for more of a semi-fulltime unit with 50 amps, two a/c units, washer/dryer, larger fridge and true four-season insulation.

Help me make the decision, based on your experience with this manufacturer. I will definitely appreciate any input.

One dealer says to stay away from Heartland, the other dealer says to stay away from Forest River. We are so confused.

Don't trust either dealer, they only want to sell you what they are authorized to handle.

Wiscamping is correct. Also think 40ft or less. I've noticed a lot of parks don't have sites that accommodate longer rigs. Our 5er is 39' 9"and our standard bed, crew cab TV are sometimes too long and we have to disconnect a real PITA at times when your just staying overnight. We have Salem Hemisphere by Forest River and our last TT was a Rockwood. No problems with either. There's another post discussing R ratings. You might try searching on that for a discussion on cold weather/four season camping.

We currently own a 2013 Columbus 320rs. We have spent two complete six month seasons in upstate NY living in it. Temperatures have ranged between 20 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. We have had two minor problems not worth talking about. We have always been comfortable and have never felt confined due to the space afforded by the opposing slide outs. I would highly recommend this unit but realize none are perfect and trust your initial instinct as far as which unit best suits your needs.
