From Western MD!

You didn't say what part of PA you live in, or how far you will drive to look at the unit you are inquiring about. If you can hold off, hitting the RV show in Harrisburg in Sept would give you a great opportunity to see many units of different brands.

Welcome. I am sure you will find the answers you seek here. A few general comments.

1. Trust the information provided here before the dealer. Members have no incentive to sell one unit over another as the salesman does. ( Your tow vehicle will not tow anything on their lot).
2. Take your time. Most people starting out go too small and trade up shortly after ( usually results in lost money).
3. Make the decision process a combination of RV and tow vehicle ( if trailer) as they are very closely related. If possible err on the high side on the tv as it will usually outlive one or two tt.
4. Don't sign paperwork until you have done a thorough walk thru and everything works.
5. Ask questions .

You are buying this to enjoy, make the purchasing process enjoyable as well.

Check all your sealants and caulking every 30-days. Look for cracks or gaps and repair or replace as needed. Use Dicor self-leveling sealant on all horizontal surfaces (roof), and heavy duty silicone on all vertical surfaces (Windows and doors).
Good luck on your Surveyor, and welcome, from Happy Valley.

As already said it would be nice to know what area of Pa. you are from that way someone might be able to suggest a decent dealer. If in the east side check out Stoltzfus RV in Adamstown Pa as they are a Surveyor dealer and usually has a good inventory, ask for Lee Voight a really GOOD salesman and who we bought our Cedar Creek from, probably one of the most honest salesman you will ever meet. Good luck and welcome and keep us posted.

Welcome from Western PA!

I read from your post that you are looking for advice on how to keep your new purchase from leaking and how to care for it rather than whom to purchase from.

If you have already purchased, do a roof inspection either yourself or have someone else do it if you are uncomfortable with getting up there. Be sure to look everywhere for any missed spots of caulking/sealant.

Regular maintenance of keeping the roof free of dirt and debris will help the roof material and the caulking/sealants last much longer.

Keeping the unit under an overhead roof or cover of some sort will extend the life even longer.

Most of all... enjoy!

Kooser is OK. Some of the spots are tough to get in others are plenty large.
All very wooded. Some of the campground has been closed for renovations but they are getting that pretty finished up.

Laurel Hill SP, (just down the road a few miles) has a more traditional campground. Just depends on what you are looking for.

Thanks. We camp with our dog and Google map showed #5 to be a good site. PA Sp's are tough on dogs.

#5 is a nice site at Kooser, with dogs, you should look at #9. Just be prepared. A lot of people get turned off by the campgrounds closeness to RT 31 which has a lot of truck traffic, and the stone quarry right above the campground. Its not so much an issue on the weekends but they fire that quarry up at 4 or 5 am on weekdays, and you can hear it. We usually end up at Kooser once or twice a year. It is a really nice place other than the above noise issues. You do tend to get used to it after a day or two and on the weekends usually only have the 31 traffic to deal with.

5 picker mentions Laurel Hill, that's our favorite and we spend 50+ nights there a year. If you give that a try and are not on one of the recently refurbished full hookup or upgraded (50 amp) electric sites be sure and have an EMS. The older electric sites all have power issues. Despite 30 amp outlets and breakers the state now lists them as 20 amp on their maps and brochures as a CYA. It was all put in in the early 80's and needs rewired. On a busy summer weekend with people trying to run AC's I have seen the power on those sites drop to less than 100 volts. If your there when its lightly occupied nothing to worry about. If you go for the full hook ups, take lots of leveling blocks. How those sites were designed and laid out is beyond ridiculous. The power at Kooser is all new as of about 3 or 4 years ago, no power issues there.

Both places other than the above are super nice and are loaded with history in regards to the CCC.
