Hello all, Doug here, from Oakville, Canada. We just picked up a 2012 Roo 183 after a miserable time with a used 2006 HW258 we purchased earlier this year from same dealer. More on this in a bit.
I have spent part of the weekend setting up the camper as we plan on getting 3 or 4 more weekends in this year still.
Problem is that the dealer didn't install everything as part of the PDI. I have a toilet paper holder as well as a towel bar for the washroom to install, but no where on the walls does it seem strong enough to handle the screws included with the items. Where do others have them installed?
We also purchased a Patty O' Room add-a-room for this camper. I see that the side walls do not attach to the awning as they did in our high wall with zippers, but rather with a spring loaded bar. Problem is that it appears it will interfere with the outer door gas shock when the door is open. Has anyone come up with a work around to this? It also seems that the canopy barely covers the door, and this after I shifted the entire canopy forward about 4 inches. Any ideas would be appreciated before I start the install.
As to why dealer did not install the room and such..... we purchased the HW in the late spring, second guessing ourselves on a new Roo. After a week of ownership, the floor started to give way, and after a few phone calls to the dealer, we ended up taking it to another and paying for a full pdi inspection. The results? A rotten floor AND roof! After bringing this to the attention of our dealer, they offered to fix it for us at cost! Not happy with this, I took video of everything and threatened to put it on youtube. It wasn't long after that I got a call from the dealer to bring it in and they would make all repairs! Well, they did repair the roof properly, ordering in new roof sides from FR. Trouble was the first ones they received were 10 footers instead of the 12 footers required. In the mean time, they reinforced the floor, that's right, from underneath with plywood and angle brackets!!!!!!! Hello? What about the rot??? And the added extra weight???? We got the trailer back the day we were to leave for 2 weeks vacay. Well, I was not happy with the floor at all, but took the trailer to camp with anyways. Why ruin it for my wife and kids?
4 days into camping, we got a huge rain, and the slide was leaking! We had a huge puddle under it and I found that the canvas was wicking the water in to the velcro where the canvas was cut around the outer edges. Two used plastic ice bags took care of that, but then the bed ends soaked right through, after the dealer told us they water proofed them! Needless to say, I was not a happy camper...... after we were back, I threatened once again with more video, my displeasure of the poor floor fix, and the multitude of leaks..... and this is when we put a deal together for the Roo...... I lost about 600 bucks when it was all said and done, but thankfully I am out of that nightmare! Problem is, the dealer did not make the Roo travel ready for us, nor would I give in to pay 200 bucks to install the room as I do not trust them at all anymore. The room was the deal maker as they were trying to short us 1200 bucks on the trade in, and I had them throw one in to close the deal.
For those asking who the dealer was? Rockwood dealer located in Gormley, ON nuff said about them.
Sorry for the vent...... back to our regular scheduled posting!
