New Surveyor Owner

Hello FR Forum. The family and I just purchased a 2012 Surveyor SP260. We were in a Fun Finder 189FBR, which was a little cramped for a family of 4. We've had our eye on the Surveyor travel trailers for quite a while and decided to make a jump for it. Listed the Fun Finder on Craigslist on a Saturday and had it sold the next day.

Looking forward to finally having some breathing room in the camper. The kids have bunks now, instead of my son sleeping on the dinette bed and my daughter in the fold down bunk above my head. My wife is excited to be able to get out of her side of the bed instead of crawling over my in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Everything about the camper is what we wanted... bigger bathroom, bunks, slide out, electric awning, did I mention more room?

So, now the question everyone asks: what do I look out for on the Surveyors? And please, if there are any Surveyor haters who bought a lemon and look for these posts to vent about the POS they bought, spare me. Just the common issues I could prevent with a little helpful heads up.

Congrats first of all ...

The clock ... Behind the cabinet where it hangs (If that part is accessible in yours) you might have the sharp ends of screws if they used too long screws as they used on mine. Good for tearing a good chunk of flesh ...

Water filter , the one just before the water pump .... Mine was not even hand tightened ... Check that out ....I am not talking about the BIG one with the cartridge, this is a tiny one to protect the water pump.

Other than that, enjoy your Surveyor, I love my SV-291 !!!

Outside of a couple of small shakedown issues when new, our Surveyor has been great. And it has been all over the country as well as over some horrible National Forest Service roads. Takes it all in stride and works great. Have fun and enjoy it.

I have a 2011 sv 264. It has been a great trailer and have had no issues with it. Matter of fact we are considering a upgrade to an SV 303 or 301 to get more room.

Check you LP line and make sure it is not contacting with the U-bolts. I just noticed that my LP line is being flattened by the U-bolts.

Some of the issues that I have found that might be evident in your trailer is the bathroom door in our trailer is warped and separating, (as well as both pocket doors to the bedroom are separating). Any panels that you have to remove to gain access behind like for the water heater, these screws will strip out easily and eventually you will have to glue a real piece of wood behind to screw into. Other than that, congrats on the new trailer and enjoy

We have had our SP260 for a year and a half. Really no significant issues and the trailer works great for our family of 5 + dog. Our only small issues have been some screws pulling out and replacing the access doors as noted above. I think the best mods I have done are adding a lockable PVC truckbox on the tongue to store all the WDH and blocks and a 5" PVC fencepost sewer hose carrier below the coach (easy access, room for all the hose and fittings, and it gets all that stuff out of the storage compartments).

Also bought ours at Country Roads RV and agree they were great to deal with.

Just a fluke that I was on line and I noticed that there had been a recall on my trailer due to the lp line being pinched by the u-bolts. I wen outside and check under my trailer--what do you know, the u-bolts have been gradually pushing up on the lp line. I took pictures.

It was for Surveyor Sports with leaf spring axles made between 11/2011 and 4/2012.
