New to 5er in Community w/ Shortbed

Hey folks,

Greetings from Northern California! I am on the cusp of buying a 2012 Sabre BHOK which I will be towing with a 2008 Dodge 2500 Mega Cab. I think I have solved my shortbed problems with a hitch called a "Pullrite Superglide." Any thoughts?

Very good choice. I have a similar truck. Just a 2006. I have the reese manuel slider but still works great. With the extended pin box i never have to slide. Just use it in case. The truck pulss great and that slider is great.

Their may be other people that will differ with me but pulling a 5th wheel is alot easier. I have towed alot of different stuff from a 18' enclosed trailer toa 21' open deck and the 5th wheel pulled great and backed up so easy.

I have the new Pullrite 15K Superglide on a shortbed (6.5ft) Tundra and it works great. Never have to worry about the 5er (2011 Rockwood 8280WS) during a turn. The 15K is cheaper (I paid $800) and works on standard hitch bed rails.

Really? Outstanding. How does the mechanism know when to slide and do its thing?

I have a manual slider. The auto that your talking about from what i have read somehow senses a turn and starts to slide. It has a gear mechanism in it and a special plate that goes on the pin box and automatically slides back and forth as needed. Somebody else may chime in and give you a better understanding of it.

I had a Ford F350 before with the resse manual and only had to slide it once because it was a tight spot. I havent had to slide it in my new mega cab yet. I know their will be times that it is needed but i just watch on turns and backing in and I have been fine. I also have a backrack on my truck and have to issues.

I have the Pull-rite Super Glide 3300 (16k hitch). More hitch than I needed with the Ultra-lite I pull, but if I ever get a bigger camper I know the hitch can handle it. Here is the manual and some pictures to show how it works.
I got mine used with all the rails and the 2500HD mounts even before I ordered my truck.

The capture plate locks the plate to the camper so when the camper tries to pivot on the king pin, it forces the whole hitch head to rotate. There is a cam under the plate that starts to move the whole assembly rearward after about 15 degrees of turn and is 18 inches back at 90 degrees of turn.

Welcome to the forum! The PullRite SuperGlide is an excellent choice, you won't be disappointed. I have the same model 3300 16K hitch which Lou posted.

Glenn, as an aside, I put my hitch pins (not the rail pins) reversed to yours so the cotter keys are accessible from the outside. The pins slide in under the hitch so that I can remove the hitch using the 5th wheel's landing gear. (Since I put it in and take it out by myself.) It is like using the 5th wheel as a crane.

Once I lift the black part up, I drive out from under the 5th wheel and then can remove the rails and stubs easily. I reverse the procedure to reinstall the hitch. Once the rails are in place I just back under the 5th wheel and drop the hitch on the rails. I use a pry bar to shift the hitch left and right to line up the holes; fish the pins in; then cotter key from the outside. I would get all greasy trying to put the cotter keys on the pins from the inside and trying to line up the rails on the studs using the back under method would be impossible.
