New to all this.

Hello all, on a whim I bought a 26dbh Cherokee Grey Wolf last Sunday. The wife and I had been talking about getting a trailer for a few years but didn't have a specific model or anything planned. Went to the RV show in St.louis last Saturday, found one that we really liked. I decided the next day to go back and get it. I look forward to getting it and learning all there is about hooking it up and enjoying it. I live in Illinois but my wife and I and our friends love going down to the ozarks and this will make things much more fun than staying in a tent. My apologies for all my future stupid questions.

My only worry thus far is that the trailer weights 5750 and my Envoy is rated to tow 6300. I'll be upgrading the Envoy to a 2016 Colorado Minimax diesel later this year, but i just hope that the Envoy can handle it.

MAKE SURE that you take the Grandkids (and pets!) with you too...or at least...in the future when "that" happens?

Some advice re the tow vehicle...listen carefully...yes weight of the tow'r is very important as is...WHEELBASE LENGTH! Consider that very carefully as the wheelbase ALWAYS controls how much sway you are going to endure with your TT
in winds and from passing semi's. OK? The LONGER the wheelbase of the tow vehicle...the BETTER! Even with everything else being equal...sway bars, equalizer hitches, etc., et al.,...this shud be your prime consideration!

Thanks for the tip, my wife and I don't even have any children, let alone grandchildren, but we do have a lot of hard partying friends which will welcome a nice place to sleep at night.

But I'm kinda shocked that you plan on towing 31' 7" TT with an Envoy!
that you are using a fictional dry weight number and that its "dry" hitch weight already exceeds the Envoy's max, makes me scared for you and the public.
loaded for camping, it will be way over your Envoy's capability.

Please tell me the dealer told you that the Envoy could tow it.

Hello and welcome from NC. Alright, I'm gonna be the one to say it. Your envoy is going to be over its limits with this trailer. The 5750 lbs is a dry weight before propane, battery, and your gear. Things added to a tt add up quickly (dishes, linen, toiletries, clothes, chairs, tools, wood, etc). Averages tend to show people add 1000-1500 lbs of gear to a tt. That will put that tt at at least 6750 lbs loaded. I can tell you our old tt was around 5700 lbs empty but weighed 7300 lbs loaded. I will tell you, I tried to toe mine with an armada with less than desirable results. Let's just say, I will never tow over capacity again after that experience.

Now lets talk about tongue weight and payload. Payload is the weight you can put in or on the tow vehicle. This would be passengers, gear, tongue weight etc. Inside the drivers side door of your envoy will be a tire loading sticker that states "passengers and cargo should not exceed x lbs". Subtract the weight of you, your wife, any pets and any gear that will be in the envoy when towing. What is left is what you have for tongue weight. The listed tongue weight for that trailer is a dry tongue weight and lower than what it will really be. Ideal tongue weight is 13-15% of the loaded tt weight. Let's go with the lower number of 6750 lbs. 13% of 6750 lbs is 877 lb tongue weight.
