Smile New to Forest River, not camping.

My wife and I just purchased a 2017 Flagstaff Shamrock 21ss and, hopefully, will take delivery in about 2 weeks but decided to join the forum to get more info. We are looking forward to the weather getting better so we can use it.

Welcome to the FR forum. Since you are already familiar with camping I will assume you will have a good PDI checklist. Just make sure the dealer shows you how to winterize and dewinerize your RV, locate the WH and how to set the bypass valves. Have them show you where the switch is to operate the WH on electric, just make sure it is full of water before you turn it on. Find out where the water pump is located, have them show you how to operate the thermostat to run the AC and furnace, plus how to operate all the other appliances and controls for the Frig. Something that may be different with FR is they offer a 2nd year factory warranty, I believe for your RV it would be $150, take it. You have to apply for the 2nd year warranty within 90 days of purchase, also FR will furnish you with 1 year of Coachnet road side service. And last, what I tell every new owner, make sure any issues you find during your PDI are repaired/fixed before you give them any money and do not leave their lot with the RV if it is not. Once they have your money and you leave they will no longer recognize you, now hopefully your dealer will not be like that, there are some good ones in the business, just not enough.

One last thing, become a FROG - go here to learn about it - http://www.forestriverfrog.com

Thank you for your reply. Although I know some of the information you gave me it is all good and very helpfull. One thing I was totally unaware of is the extended warrantee, I will definately take advantage of it. Another thing your message proves is that no matter how much we know, or think we know, there is always more to learn. Thanks again!

I didn't know how much background you had since you said your were familiar with camping. I mentioned the 2nd year warranty because many dealers don't tell their customers about it and try to sell them 2nd party warranty which can be costly. Also to be aware of the Coachnet service the 1st year. I've been on this forum for several years and the same questions are asked many times. The operation of the fan settings on the thermostat comes up often so understand that, most of the time it should be set on "AU" (automatic), as well as the location of the water pump because they seem to have a game of hide and seek at the factory.

Again I want to thank you very much for your help and suggestions, it is greatly appriciated.. Although I am a fairly experienced camper it was not in the dealers showroom, haha, so I don't know all the ins and outs of dealing with them. I once owned a motorhome and the first winter it took me about 2 hours to find the water pump. I finally found it by takin off the back inside panel of the cloths closet. It was in such a tight spot I could not see it while replacing the water intake hose with the anti-freeze hose. I am sure design teams stay up nights figuring out where to put the darned things where they can't be readily accessed let alone found!
