new to RVing and having trouble please help
Hello,
My name is John and we have a 2010 Forest River Wildcat. We had a power outage at the campground yesterday and after they got the electricity back on, only half of the RV is working electrically. The air conditioner and half of the outlets aren't working and it is 100 degrees here today. We checked the breakers and the GFI in the bathroom and they aren't kicked and the fuses don't seem to be blown. Any ideas on what it could be?

Sounds like you are running off of battery power. Check where you plug the rv into the campground power...the circuit breaker there might be tripped.

I hope you have a surge guard. Sometimes you have to turn the breakers off then turn them back on. I hope you get your power back on soon.

we have power to run an air conditioner in the window and half the outlets are working so I don't think all of it is running off of the battery. We are getting power to half of the RV.

I don't think we have a surge guard and we tried resetting all of the breakers but that didn't work. Can a regular electrician work on this or does it have to be a RV person?

Make sure the electrition understands the differences between standard house electric and RV. The basics are the same and one can help. Maybe asking some of your neighbors would be a better idea

X2 on this question from Lou as a 50 amp utilizes two different legs of 120 volt power from a split phase 120/240 volt outlet....and you may only have one leg working properly.
Are you using any kind of adapter to plug in at the campsite?
Also, you may have other tripped gfci master outlets, either in the kitchen area...and as we discovered in another thread the other day, there can be a gfci in the storage area too.
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ide-64681.html
However, I wouldn't think the outlets and Air Conditioning would be on the same circuit. I am tending to think there is something wrong with one leg of 120 volt power...if a 50 amp RV.

We are plugged directly into a breaker box in the campground. We are having their person check it and he said the breaker is bad and not giving off enough amps. Maybe we are only getting enough electricity to run one side? He is changing the breaker box and I hope all it well after that. I only see a GFCI in the bathroom. I don't see one on either plug in the kitchen area. We looked in the storage but didn't see anything. Will go check again. I appreciated all of the help. We are not aware of all of the hows and wheres on this RV and don't have a lot of knowledge in the electric area of things so all and any help is truly appreciated

I used my voltmeter to debug a similar issue w/ a 50 amp trailer for a friend. One leg of the outlet on the campground power pedestal was DEAD! The campground electrician had to replace the 50 amp breaker in the pedestal.
Check voltage in both legs of the pedestal outlet.

Was pretty sure, but had to ask. As everyone has said, you need to verify good power on each incoming leg. A good power/surge protector would have notified you of a problem.

you dodged a huge bullet
strongly advise that you purchase a power protection device
We use a portable "Surge Guard"
Portable Surge Guards With LCD Display - 50 Amp - TRC 34750-001-LCD - Surge Protectors - Camping World
Others use hard wired, and others prefer the Progressive Industries brand.
