Newb from the north country

Hi all! I'm Andy from MN and we are going to pick up a new '12 Grey Wolf 28BHKS this weekend in Iowa. We will be using it a few times early this summer, but the big reason is our 3 week trip to my girlfriend's family out in NB Canada. (1350 mi one way, can't wait /sarcasm) I am trying to make the best of my set-up to get the most seamless experience for that trip (best towing accessories, TV mods, etc. current mods in sig) so any advice is well taken. This will be our first experience ever in a TT since we always tented before.

Already learning a lot from cruising the forum here. You guys are a great source of wisdom and knowledge for my newbness!

Thanks!

Welcome to this fantastic site. It is nice to have someone close to the area we live in. Cedar is only a few mile north of Champlin. Love camping in our new 320 Columbus camper. Third time camping next weekend in Waseca.

Thanks for the welcomes! My parents actually live in Oak Grove. They have a Crossroads 5'er and we plan on doing some local camping witht them this summer. One planned in Isanti for the first weekend in June.

We actually live in Oak Grove and we just camped at Country Camping campgrounds this past weekend. We camp there quite often because it is close to home, about 20 minutes away.

Yeah, Country is where we will make the maiden voyage. Went there a couple years ago. It is a nice little campground.

The best advice I can give is take is easy. Leave lot of room between you and the vehicle in front. You probably already know that the TV & TT setup takes more room to stop. We just completed a 3000 mile trip from BC to Ont. We find it best to plan the trip ahead of time. You can decide how far you want to travel in a day and research any CG in the area you are stopping at. If you are planning on traveling during a busy time of the camping year I recommend making reservations before you leave. There is nothing worst then trying to find a CG after driving for 8+ hours and finding them all full. Make sure you have your passport before leaving the US in to Canada. What part of NB are you going to?

I already planned on driving like my 72 yr old grandmother, lol. WAAY out of my normal habbits. We planned a stop in Sault St. Marie and Montreal on the way there. Return trip is till in debate since we will be leaving earlier in the day. We have all the passports for the trip from our last 2 visits. We are off to St. Leaonard, NB, right on the border of ME. Drove it sans TT a couple years ago in our Trailblazer...in December...through 3 blizzard patches...*shudders at the memory*.

This trip will give me new nightmares, however. I think the dream will start out pulling into a way station, then the numbers at the pump will spin out of control as the gas pump trickles lightly...oh wait, that will be the reality *sigh*

You will have a problem finding a nice campground near Montreal. Plus the traffic in Montreal will be a nightmare. I would not want to tow a TT trough Montreal. St Leaonard's is a very nice place. You will most likely start to cry when you stop for gas in Ont. Two weeks ago the price was $1.35 /l near Sault Ste. Marie. The province of Que has the highest gas prices in Canada. You will also find the in Que. you will have to leave the highway to get gas.

Now that you mention it, I dont recall having to stop much with the Trailblazer, but that got near 21-22 MPG with the 4.2 I6 hwy. This will be a whole new driving experience lol.

I plan on filling up in MI before crossing over the border as to minimize the Canadian purchases lol.
