Newb to camper life from Pgh, Pa

Hi all,

My name is Drew and I am 100% new to the camper world. I've been a tent camper thus far.

I am married with a 7 yr old daughter and a 4 yr old son.

On Tuesday, I picked up my first TT, a 2016 R-Pod 182G. I'm going to do a camping trial run this weekend in the driveway then will dive in to dry camping next weekend.

I'm excited to be a member of this forum and hope to learn lots (as I know next to nothing currently)

Here is the TTClick image for larger version

Thanks for the input aceinspp. A gen is something on my list to research. I know Honda seems to have a great reputation. Is there a specific size/output that is preferable for dry camping?

Since the Rpod has a 13.5k a/c, if you want to run it, you'll need a minimum of a 2400w inverter generator.
The Yamaha 2400 is advertised to start most 13.5k a/c's.

If you are boondocking where you have no neighbors, a cheap 3000w and up contractor generator will work. But they aren't appropriate for campgrounds.

My recommendation would be a pair of 2000w inverter generators with parallel kit.
That way if you don't need a/c, you only need to take one them to run everything else.
And they only weigh around 50lbs each.

There are many different brands that make this setup.

Thanks for the heads up dblr. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending how you look at it, I will be just arriving at the Outer Banks that day for vacation. Sorry to miss out on meeting some fellow frog owners so close to home.

From Western MD.
Plenty of places around in the 'burgh area. You'll find what you like - but the best part is just getting out. You've already found that out while tenting!

Everyone seems to think Honda is the way to go but very expensive to buy. I have a Boliy 3600Si and is cheaper than 2 Hondas It will run your air just fine and also is electric start at half the price. DBs are the same as Honda. Its also rated better for constant 3000 watts. Later RJD

Mike

Thanks for the tip on Jellystone Mike. I completely forgot about that place. I went to the one by Ohiopyle when I was a teenager but didn't camp. I just checked their site and it seems like a great option for the kiddos.

Maiden voyage complete! With Running dual batteries, they didn't drop below 2/3 and the black and gray tanks remained on E. I'm going to call it a success for first time out.
