Newbie from Texas

Hello all!!

My GF and I just bought our first travel trailer and we are very excited to a part of the RV lifestyle.

We purchased a pre-owned 2015 Rockwood
8310SS. It is very clean and will suit us very well!!

We live in the DFW area but out in a rural community on an acre homesite. Just 5 minutes from a major reservoir with campsite!! Extremely convenient for us to go and set up the trailer and then get the boat out for a long weekend at the lake. I have to work weekends but I can still spend the nights at the lake and cruise on the pontoon boat or fish and stay in the camper!! Sounds good to me!!

I am a total novice when it comes to RV'ing but I learn quickly and fortunately have some capabilities to fix things. Limited as it may be!! LOL!! We are looking forward to spending as much time as possible using our trailer and enjoying the outdoors. Fortunately we have a lot of options here in the great state of Texas!!!

Looking forward to learning more and running in to some of you in the campground!!!

Congrats from another Texan. We do the same thing all of the time. When you buy these things, use them as much as possible.

Congratz on the new RV and welcome aboard Neil.

The below is a copy and paste of useful information, and I usually recommend it to those just starting out. Some of it, you may already know, or may not be applicable to your particular RV. You will be able to filter out what pertains to your situation or not. I would suggest you read the electric threads and energy management first, and then the converter thread. This will help explain your different electrical systems of your RV, and how they operate...as well as what the converter does. The very first link will explain what operates off what system.

You can just peruse at your leisure as you get to know your RV:

Basic electric:

Basic RV Electricity - RV Information (RV Maintenance)

RV Electric

Your very important converter:

RV Converters and Amp Draw - RV Information (RV Maintenance)

Installing a dedicated 30 amp RV outlet at home (Make sure you understand it's 120 volts ONLY):

How to wire a RV 30 amp outlet

12 volt DC:

Suburban water heater (if applicable to your RV):

Suburban Water Heater Video Guides

Water Heater bypass/crossover valves:

NO (OR LUKEWARM) HOT WATER -Please read first

And the newest additions to help understand what constitutes a true full cylinder in refilling vs exchanging propane cylinders... as well as how the automatic propane changeover regulator works:

Welcome Neil and girlfriend from just down the road a bit. So which major reservoir is this? There are a few to choose from around Dallas. If you have anything specific as far as repair or mods/upgrades, let us know. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this site. Hope to see you down the road!

Hi Ed! We live in Nevada, TX and I'm referring to Lake Lavon. I'm about 5 minutes from the boat ramp!! The park I'm going to use is East Fork. They have plenty of 50 amp campsites there!!

I plan on using the resources here as much as possible!!! I'm so new I don't even know what mods I need!! LOL!!
