Newbie from Texas

Hi,
My wife and I are currently looking at getting back into RVing. We had a star craft popup 15 years ago. Our kids are grown and gone now so we are looking getting a rv for us. We are currently looking at a 2013 Rockwood mini lite 2304. Our TV is a 2012 Tacoma Pre-runner double cab 5ft bed with tow package. Tow weight for truck is listed at 6500 lbs and tongue weight is listed at 650 lbs. I was just looking to see if anyone has towed 2304 with a Tacoma. I am concerned that tongue weight of the 2304 trailer is listed at 569 lbs. and dry weight of 3800 lbs. My wife likes room in 2304 and the amenities. I am just trying figure out if I can tow it on extended trip and in areas with steep grades. Any recommendations are welcome.
Thanks.
P.S.
I know I could trade up trucks but really do not want too.

Aside from the tongue weight, I really don't think the Tacoma will have the power for extended trips, or more importantly, steep grades. It will probably do it, but may end up putting more stress on the engine/tranny, then brakes coming down the other way. The Tacoma is a good truck, but may be a bit light for what you are looking at. Maybe someone that does tow with one will come along and tell me I'm full of it.

Oh, and welcome! Where in Texas are you?

your biggest issue will be the hitch weight.
that trailer's actual tongue weight can easily be at or over your max. adding cargo, water, battery and propane will easily add at least 100lbs. to the hitch weight.
plus, that's assuming you have nothing in the bed.

that's the problem with v-6 mid-size trucks, payload/hitch capacity.

That is my concern also. Going to give it a try with some local towing and see how it handles but will more than likely up grade my TV. We are not located to far from y'all in Conroe. Thanks for input.

I spoke with the dealer about my concern with tongue weight and he the weight distribution hitch would fix tongue weight issue. I am also having sway control installed. As stated going see how it pulls, I spoke with my toyota sales person and he feels it should pull it ok with equipment installed. Does what dealer saying sound right?

Hi there!

Towing is not an strong area of knowledge for me but based on what has already been provided I would suggest more homework.

Advice and feedback can range from one person to another but consider the intent behind the words.

Just wishing all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have decided to purchase bigger truck so there will be no worry with package we are buying. We picking up our new Rockwood minilite 2304 on 1/5/13 and are looking forward to RVing this spring and summer. Should get new truck before end of year.

And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Congrats on the new truck! For many of us deciding to buy a new TV is not a easy decision at all. I had a kind sister that offered her Yukon for towing until I could get a truck.

dct,
Wise choice on a bigger truck. I upgraded after buying a bigger TH. I think you will be glad in the long run IMHO.
