Newbie questions

HI! We just bought a travel trailer and my husband I are both big city people, this is our first camper. We have a 2013 Forest River Salem Hemisphere 272BH and I had a couple of questions. Should we take the TV down when towing? I think we should and my husband thinks not. Also does any one know where to get a mattress topper (for added comfort) for the full size bunk mattresses that have those corner angle cutouts? I have one more question, but it is pretty silly, so I am going to be a big girl and try and figure it out myself before I ask. Thanks!

Congrats on the new unit.

We leave our tv up whilst towing but I think you should do what you feel comfortable with.

When mine was delivered to the site, both TV's were in place. Everything that can move has straps to hold it down. I guess it comes down to your own piece of mind.

I leave mine in place with no problems, so far. In my TT to get the TV off the wall you have to lift the TV up off the mount. So if your worried about it, you could just install a removable strap from top of the TV to bottom. That would give you some insurance.

I have a tt and we always leave tv on the wall no problem as of now congratulations on the new camper

Ok thanks guys! I'll just leave it up, BUT I'll act like I decided that on my own to my husband, so he won't have one up on me! BTW I AM usually right, so this is an anomaly.

I leave my TV up. THose brackets are pretty strong and should be properly screwed into the structure, not just the wallboard.

I'd just go ahead and get some standard size mattress toppers from some place cheap like Walmart and just cut them to fit. THey will be under a sheet anyways, so who cares what they look like.

One thing to keep in mind as a new Rv'r is that to go slow and easy. Don't just bang your trailer around back there by speeding over bumps and potholes. The suspension on these things is a lot stiffer than in your car, so things will bounce around a lot back there - keep that in mind with what dishware you select - corele or acrylic holds up really well, as well as using a padded shelf paper.

As for the mattress, we had a king size bed in the previous camper, the new one has a queen. We bought a 4 inch topper for a residential bed and cut it down to fit the king, and then cut it down again for the queen. I think we got it at Wal-Mart.

Re the topper. You may find it cuts more easily and neatly with an electric knife.

Does DH stand for Dumb Husband? That's the only logical thing I can think of. Luckily the huz is pretty good at driving since he drives a big fire truck for a living. BUT when it comes to maintenance and what not, as he says, he gets "paid to tear $h!t apart, not put it together". So please be thinking good thoughts for us. The dumb question was on our dinnette, magically becoming a bed. The guy who gave us our tutorial, seemed like he needed one himself. Whatever he showed us left all these spaces and just was not correct, but I honestly didn't see a better way. So if anyone has our model or one w/ the same dinnette/bed how do make a bed w/ a solid bottom and not a bunch of cracks? Pics? Wow I like you guys, you are so nice and helpful, wht don't I meet you in real life??

............. I don't know about your dinette bed.... sorry .. though I am sure someone will help. This forum has the nicest people. Don't worry -- once you start going out you will meet others that are just as nice and interested in things you are interested in. Good luck with your bed. And tell DH that he is not allowed to tear up the TT!!

From the looks of photos it appears that you need to take the table top off of the pedastals and remover the pedastatls from the holes in the floor then the table top should fit between the seats and then you use the cushions for the mattress.

Other option is to call a dealer and ask them. Most are glad to help.

Used a "Box Cutter" (razor knife) on mine and it cuts clean and straight.

I know how to get the table down and set as a base, it's the cushions that aren't fitting right... We are taking it out for the 1st time on the first weekend of Oct. I will play w/ it then and take some pics to better explain my conundrum. Thanks for the topper info, I might try the electirc knife suggestion and then also use it to massacare the turkey on Thankygivey!
