Newbie to a motorhome

Howdy folks, my wife Rose and myself have just purchased a 2016 Forest River "Forester" and currently reside in Washington state.. Albeit we are in our 70's we are super excited to hit the road this coming summer for a rather extensive road trip to visit children/grandchildren and great grandchildren all over this wonderful country of ours... We will be traveling with our GSD as he goes every where with us... Our trip will take us to Pahrump Nevada over to Steamboat Springs Colorado than up to Eagle River Wisconsin than back home to Lakebay Washington... I have planned our trip to run from 40 to 50days roughly 25 stops not planning to push more than 250 to 300mi per day for our journey... We are newbies to tent/trailer camping but we are to a motorhome any advice for our trip would be truly appreciated... I have found this forum extremely beneficial.. Thanks Mark

Do several shake down trips close to home to get all the bugs worked out.

X2. Do at least one camping trip to make certain you know how everything works... even if it's just 'driveway' camping.

Your limit of 250-300 miles a day is a good one. Since you're new to a MH, you might want to consider a roadside assistance programs for RV's. We use coach-net, but there are other good ones out there.

Take your time and safe travels.

Thanks to all for the advice... We have planned to do all of the above, driveway camping, a couple of 3/4 day stays @ WA state parks in June to get use to the motorhome especially with a 92lb GSD who thinks he owns everything, as well we have upped our AAA package to include RV coverage... Being a USMC Vietnam vet I have the tendency to be redundant on most "everything" driving the wife nuts but that's a behavior that has served me well and saved my behind a number times... Thanks Mark

Thank you for your service.
You might want to be redundant on RV towing coverage. We have two because we've found the ability to get help from either service depends on the area of the country we are driving. Some offer telephone troubleshooting to help with minor problems.

Thanks, we are Good Sam Members and I wondered about doubling up on something similar to our AAA RV coverage, albeit I have "Performance First" mechanical breakdown protection "Elite" coverage which does cover trip interruption it always comes down to who/whom offers the best service when & where... AAA has been very good for us over the years I will take your advice and check out what "Good Sam" has to offer...
