Newbs
Hi there!
New to the site, and new to the RV world.
We sold our big south FL home and bought a 2018 Forest River Wildwood 187RB.
We hit the road in the next week as soon as we sign the closing papers.
Gonna head north as that’s the only way to get outta FL by car, and travel to the Alabama area first.
My only real concern is battling the colder temps. Being in FL for 36 years, I’m no longer winter tolerable. My husband, his name is Alex Sinclaire also, has done a tremendous amount of research as have I, and I think we’re ready. I hope we’re ready!

Welcome to the forum and to the world of RVing. Congrats on your new tt. Caution when heading north and being new to camping. Trailer not well insulated and need to watch for freezing temps play havoc on campers. Enjoy and Later RJD

Even here in SE Arizona the night temps drop down into the 20's. The Phoenix area pretty much stays in the 50's. Good luck on your travels. Fun times and hard work ahead. Don't be afraid to ask questions and enjoy your new adventures.

You want to head north when everyone else is headed south?
Sorry. Don't mean to be rude, but you really need to be staying out of the freezing weather. Rvs are not known for being stable on winter roads, they are not insulated well, and many campgrounds are closed for the winter.
If you're on a trip to see the sights, start with the southern route and head north in the summer.

A bit rude, but ok.
We live in Florida now, so when you say head south...we’ll, we live in the south. Florida is just about as south as you can go, don’t u think?
Anyway, we put our house on the market not expecting it to sell in less than 24 hours. Nobody can plan for that. But it happened, so now that we don’t own a house anymore in Florida, and we don’t want to live in Florida anymore the only way to get out of Florida is to go north. Unless you have a boat, which we do not.
We’re planning on northern Alabama first, we have friends there. Not like we’re going to Wisconsin or North Dakota in a camper. I know travel trailers are not known for their insulation, but as I said earlier...our house sold in less than 24 hours. Not a whole lot we could do there especially since they gave us our asking price. So we have heaters for the camper, 3 to be exact. We stocked up on winter clothing too, I have 3 heating pads in the camper too. We gotta do what we gotta do. This is the way it worked out, ya know. Things happen. I’m watching the weather for Alabama. Some days are cold, yes but like Florida they come and they go. It rarely snows there, and it it gets that bad we have friends we can stay with.

From a Michigan standpoint you are headed north at the wrong time of year. Good luck and have fun. You may want to read up on 30 amp service and electrical usage before trying to run 3 space heaters and heating pads.

Not sure how you can think it rude that comments/posts are made about cold/freezing weather or how well the unit will do in them when you didn't specify in your initial post HOW FAR north you plan to go and in the same breath you talk about battling cold temperatures. Especially at this time of year... WINTER!
Best of luck to you.

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin. Come on up for the winter, last week we had freezing rain and only 3" of snow. I know that you are coming this far north this time of year but you are welcome to come and visit us during the summer. We have 3 months where we can almost guarantee it will not snow.
Seriously now, enjoy your travels and ask any questions that you come up with.
(By the way, we really only have 2 months where is has not snowed, July and August.)

Congratulations on the new camper and welcome to the forum from Missouri. Although I have never winter camped, there are a lot of people that do it and a large number of people that live full time in their RVs even in the colder states. Follow the tips posted on this forum and other forums about winter camping and you should do alright.
