oven range vent

just bought a flagstaff 8528rsws (5w) and i can't figure out how to open the outside vent. i was told to just push up on the tabs. i tried that with no success. i am afraid to push any harder than i did because they will break. any help would be appreciated. also a photo of the vent open would help.
thanks in advance,
russ

I am going to assume that its the same as mine........
It will open it took me a couple of tries, I had to push up on the two tabs and pull out at the same time. I also thought it was going to break but it didn't

They can be a pain but will operate easier over time.

If I recall, I think I gently pried ours open the first time. There has never been a second as I left it lose and it's never been a problem

Ours was caulked over a bit. Peeled back some caulk and it worked well. You have to push up and out to get it to open.

hi,
does the tab swing the flap in or out. it looks like the tab pivots on a center pin causing the plate to swing in. but in was mentioned about prying it open. can someone attach a picture of it open.
thanks again,
russ

Same here. Tech cut the caulk on the trailer's 2nd trip to the dealership for warranty work.

I've had most of the same experiences described here. It DOES get easier with time. I've also found that it's easier for me to get one side loose before working on the other side.

Does anyone know where, or even better yet a DIY way to fix the flap on these? I have 2 tabs that rotate as well as two tabs that stick out near the top of the flap so that the flap can "hinge" and swing open. One of the 2 ears or tabs at the top of the flap have broken causing the entire flap to fall out if I open the vent. Pain in the butt....Gotta come up with a way to make new "ears" at the top and some way to make a new rotating tab at the bottom.
