Questions about camping in Kentucky, Red River Gorge?

Hi everyone!

We would like to camp in Kentucky for vacation this September and wondered if you all had suggestions on where the best campgrounds are? We have been looking around at Red River Gorge and surrounding areas. We have a 30ft trailer.

Thanks so much!:

Koomer Ridge campground, US Forest Service is very nice and easy to get to
no hookups, but close to the gorge and nice sites
first come first serve
get there early on a Friday, or most any time during the week to get a spot

otherwise, the state park nearby, which is crowded, but nice and close to activities

also Cave Run Lake which is not too far from there, any of the state park campgrounds are nice and can be reserved

Natural Bridge SP We stayed there last year & really liked it. There are 2 campgrounds; can't remember their names, but the one on the right & on the river is the one we stayed at. The first one you come to on the left is a bit cramped, but not bad; we just preferred the other one more. Bigger sites, on the river paved drives, some sites paved, others gravel. If it rains, both campgrounds get pretty wet, but not too bad. Great hiking in the park & not far from Red River Gorge; well worth the trip. Also be sure & try Miguel's pizza on the left before you get to campgrounds; very good.
If you like the outdoors & hiking, I'm sure you will really like it there.

Middlefork campground is the one we really like & site # B9 is our favorite site. It backs right up to the river & is very shaded.

I camp in eastern Kentucky and really like Falls Campground in Louisa. It is close to Yatesville Lake and is off the Country Music Highway. Easily accessible from I64 - it is the last exit before WV.
