RV newbies signing in!

Hello from Vancouver, WA! We are recent transplants from California! I was relocated for my job. Anyway, just put a down payment to hold a Flagstaff Micro Lite 23LB. We are a family of three towing with a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado diesel so we feel that this trailer is a good size while still remaining in the towing limits of our truck (7,600lbs). We should be picking up the trailer in two weeks!

Along those lines, I want to get a weight distributing hitch and install it myself so I don’t have to pay the dealer to do something I can do. Do you think I am safe to tow the trailer (4,121 UVW) the 15 miles to my house from the dealer?

I will browse the forum to learn as many tips/tricks possible. Anyway, pleasure to “meet” you all!

I do, .... you will experience extra weight on the truck of course, but I wouldn't expect it to be any more than loading a lawn tractor into the bed of a pickup, we've all done that, .... you know its there but the truck can handle it, ... that's what pickups are for, just be careful, ... congrats on the new tt, ... now you get to start making memories, ... happy trailering

welcome, make sure you have a electric brake controller set up asap we had a 2016 colorado v6 the we towed with and our controller went out on a trip our TT is a little lighter than yours (21fbrs) about 3900lb dry, and you knew it was back there, we were close to an RV dealership and got a new one. i definitely wouldn't want to do hills without one

Thank you. The truck has a built in brake controller but it going out wouldnt be good at all. I will definitely keep an eye out for that!

Welcome to FRF from Camano Island, Washington and another California refugee.

We bought our WDH from RVW and our dealer installed it for free, when we picked up our new TT.

Might be worth asking them if they would do it.
