Soon to be new, first time TT owner

Well, I would post what model ForestRiver TT we have but we have not narrowed the model down yet. I had no idea how detailed it was to buy a trailer. We have a 2013 Silverado CC with towing package but only the 3.42 gear ratio. We like the 30 ft models but don't want to buy a new truck. Would like the Apex UL 235BHS but trying to pay $15,000 cash. Would my truck struggle? Getting mixed answers. Thanks for any advice from people with similar set ups!

1500/tow rating?

Plan on pulling any mountains west of the Mississippi?

Nope. Just beach areas and other normal places. Could also do the mountains here in NC.

Ok.

On the drivers door post there is a yellow sticker, what weight can your truck haul/tow?

Well, I should have answered correctly! Yes, a 1500. I'm looking again at this very generic manual.

The trailer you mentioned is definitely light enough for your truck. I'm not very familiar with Chevy performance but it should do just fine. Of course, lotsa folks here will tell you anything less than a Freightliner Sporthauler is unacceptable. Hopefully someone with the same/similar truck and trailer combo will be able to give you the info you really need. I do know that my Ram 1500 5.7 hemi wouldn't have any problem at all with a 6,500 pound (max for the Apex 235). Wind resistance is going to be more of a factor than weight when you see the really low MPG numbers.

Another factor is what engine size you have in your 1500 and does it have a tow package. Later RJD

finally some info! After finally finding the chart for the build codes for my truck I have the K5L code which indicates the HD cooling package and along with the axle ratio of 3.42, manual states a 9,500 lb maximum trailer weight. So a 6500lb trailer should be ok as long as I don't have 4000lbs of cargo. Thanks for the replies. I hope this info is correct. Now, lets find the dealer that wants to accept cash instead of making points on the finance!

How does that information compare to the sticker on the door post?

sticker only has GVWR of 7000lb 5500truck weight plus 1500 cargo weight. only other sticker I found was on rear driver side door stating tire size and pressures.

Since the Apex you're considering has an empty weight of about 4,300 pounds and maybe about 5,500 or so fully loaded, you are well within limits. Your door sticker says 1,500 pound cargo weight capacity and it's probably somewhat close. However, you will not know the real capacity until you get an actual truck weigh (via a Cat scale or similar).

But, with 600 pound tongue weight, 500 pounds of of people and stuff, you should still be within truck limits.

our 2014 Silverado 1500 w/ a 5.3L GVW 7200lbs, had a towing capacity of 9500lbs. We hauled our 29'6" Windjammer fully loaded (7100lbs) without any problems...you just go a bit slower up hills...oh-well.
The only reason we now own a 2500 is that we are planning on moving to a larger TT or 5er.

Good luck with your choice.
Happy Trails

My suburban (2004 with 5.3l and 3.42 rear) pulled a Cherokee Grey Wolf 21rr toy hauler just fine except for the Black Hills of SD. It made the hills but I was really, really, slow going up the mountains. The toy hauler was rated 7,000 pounds max and we have a 2012 HD electra glide classic. This is just to give you an idea of what you could possibly do.

Welcome to the FRF! I had a 2006 1500 with the 6.0 and it pulled my 21SS fine. I would say try to stay under 6000lbs. Once you have it loaded with camping gear you could be close to your towing limit. flatland towing won't be an issue.
