State Park suggestions

Greetings to one and all. My wife and I are avid campers and really enjoy and appreciate Indiana's Stats Parks system. In fact we have camped at every one that offers camping facilities along with several State Reservoirs. In addition, we have camped at Buck Creek and Hocking Hills in Ohio. We have made reservations for the first week in April at a State Park in Kentucky. Our plan is to visit other state parks in the midwest this season and I am seeking suggestions from my fellow Forest River brethern as what parks to consider. Appreciate your assistance as we continue to spread out our camping wings.

Just curious, where were your favorite locations in Indiana?

Paint Creek State Park in Ohio is one of the nicest parks you will find. It is located in the south west part of the state about 50 miles east of Cincinnati off of US 50. Wife and I were camp host there for four years before moving down the road a mile to be Volunteeres for the Corps of Engineeres. Beautiful big sites set in a rolling hills park. Right on Paint Creek lake that has great boating and fishing.

No particular order: Turkey Run, McCormicks Creek, Brown County, Clifty Falls and Indiana Dunes, Obannon Woods State Park to name a few. We live in north central Indiana and also take advantage of Potato Creek and Tippecanoe River State for short weekend get aways. Hope this helps.

Good to know. Sounds like we will drive near it as we head into Kentucky in April.

You will also be close to Rocky Fork SP on your venture also! RFSP has Several FHU Sites! Youroo!!

Good list. I've been to the majority of those. I need to book a Dunes weekend. Tried to book over July 4th but that was booked solid by Jan 4th - Ended up booking a week at Patoka Lake

Haven't been to Clifty Falls, Obannon Woods, Potato Creek, or Tippecanoe River parks. Will need to check them though

Have you been to Natural Bridge S/P in Kentucky? Great hiking & scenery.

In Ohio, Salt Fork State Park outside of Cambridge. They offer full hook up on certain sites and miles of wooded, hilly hiking trails.(register early for all state park sites but especially if you want full hook up). Maumee Bay State Park outside of Toledo has nice flat paved biking trails that go along Lake Erie and plenty of other attractions near by that Lake Erie has to offer. Mohican State Park near Loudenville also has full hook up and several canoe livery's nearby.

Hueston Woods is a nice park. Haven't camped there in years though.

Our Indiana Favorites are O'Bannon Woods, Versailles, Dunes and Starve Hollow.
In Ohio, make sure you try Kelleys Island near Sandusky.

How is Summit Lake SP? We are thinking of camping there in July but have never been there before. I see they have lakefront campsites. Just wondering how the campgrounds are and things to do at the park.

Summit Lake is a nice relaxing State Park especially if you can get a site close to the lake. Hiking trails are not the level of other Indiana State Parks. Having said that, we have been there on two separate outings. Enjoy.
