water pump . . . help!

Went out on our first camping weekend. Our water pump in our trailer is so loud that it is embarrassing. We would like to order a new quieter one right away. Some one suggested flow jet. But I don't know what size, or if this is indeed the best one.
Any help would be appreciated.

First thing to do is open up your outside storage find your
water pump. Have someone draw some water and look to see
if the lines from the pump are jumping around. I got some foam
pipe insulation and put on my water lines where they were bumping
together and bumping the wall or ceiling of the storage area.
Use zip ties and foam insulation to fasten everything down and
away from walls, floor, ceiling.
My pump is not quiet but it's way better than it used to be.

Adding on what KYDan mentioned see if your pump is mounted solidly to the wood floor or if there is a chunk of hard rubber under it. We traded out our pump for a higher flow rate due to low pressure to a Shurflow 5.7 smart sensor pump. It is touted to be quiet but that is a realative term. It is a bit quieter but I can still hear it. If you do plan on changing pumps change to the highest flow rate you can afford for better pressure and then concentrate on making the installation of the pump as isolated as possible from the floor and piping. You can also install an accumulator tank which helps to negate the knocking and reduces pump duty cycle time.

Someone here had a really nice thread posted on their efforts to quiet down their pump, you might try a seach for it.

You would only need the pump when dry camping, and, you really do need to be able to hear the pump- at least some, because #1, it would tell you when the tank is empty, and #2, when you have anything running. #3, whether or not you blew a fuse. I know on mine, the freah tank is only 40 gallons, and I monitor it very closely, because when it's gone, it's gone! I make sure everybody is very water- conservative! Randy

Our water pump is rather noisy from the inside, but barely audible from the outside. You may not be bothering your neighbors as much as you think.

I've since added foam insulation to my piping for the cold nights hunting in Montana, and it seems to make the plumbing even more quiet.

On mine it makes a huge difference just following the proper power-up sequence. I turn on each spigot hot and cold, then switch on the pump. After getting steady flow from the spigot nearest the pump, I turn them off one by one in sequence after each has good flow. After that the pump has an audible hum, but that is it.

installing a Shur-Flo silencing kit has helped quiet for many RV owners. i'm planning on installing one myself, along with putting a mouse pad under the pump.

That's gotta be a real bitch when all you want to do is flush the toilet at night.
