Which is better? 1 or 2 Axles for about the same size TT.
Sorry this post might have some errors. Our FiOS wire just got cut, so I writing this on the wifes iPad and a 3g Connection.
But we were going to go look at a couple of different FR TTs tomorrow. Still a long drive but that was our plan.
Since I don't have a good internet connection, I can't give the specfics on which ones I mean. Sorry.
But I was hoping there might be a general consequence on if a TT that was almost the same length and weight, and whether that having one or two axles would be better. Two axles might pull better? One axle might be more easily pushed by the wind?? Or maybe not really a lot of differences.
I realize that a second axle should provide more payload capacity. But is is there any other differences in the choices. I would just think two would have to be better than one. IMHO
Thanks for any information.
Paul

Look very carefully at the cargo carrying capacity between the two. Single axle campers aren't know for their CCC.

In general I have found that tandem axle trailers of the same length tend to be pushed around less by the wind and ride more evenly, less front to rear bounce.
However they are also heavier and harder to turn in small areas.

more tires/axles means more brakes - good. More cost for tires when you need them - bad. Since I have to buy 4 tires in the next week or two it's on my mind.
I've not pulled similar sized trailers of each axle type to be able to compare, sorry.

I would go with 2 axles every single time. Yes, tires and brakes every 4-5 years is more expensive. But for that trade in cost you get better weight distribution, more braking power, and you'll be in a safer situation should you blow a tire.
I've dealt with enough blown tires on my single axle snowmobile, boat, and other trailers over the last 20 years that that alone is enough reason to avoid single axles.

X2 (IMHO)! Especially the cargo carrying capacity and weight distribution characteristics. Ask the dealer to test tow each, you'll feel the difference!

I'm a couple weeks away from moving up from a single axle to a dual... Could some one please explain how/why dual axles provide better backing?

They dont turn as quickly so you are less likely to over correct and are easier the longer they are IMO.

Tandem axles here.
Also, if you can get Torflex or Torsion axles.
Self dampening and true independent suspension.

DH says he'll only buy two axle trailers ~ basically same as above in regard to safety and blow outs.

IMHO when backing,a single when it starts to turn(the trailer) it seems to come around faster than TV , specialy if TV is long wheel base, I have several work trailers, two single axl 12',one tandem 16',one tandem 24' w/dove tail equip trailer, and one 18' in closed cargo. The singles get the most use,and most of the time I can keep up with them when backing. Just my two cents! Hope it helps, kinda hard to explane.
