it depends on if you are going to be camping without Electric. If you are planning on being camping without a place to plug in, yes, get a second battery. If all your camping is done where you have a place to plug in, you probably don't need one

You will never regret having a second battery, but you just may regret only having one. Been there, done that!

2 is better than 1
We boon-dock almost exclusively. We currently have 1 battery and it will only last us about 2 days if we are conservative. I would recommend 2 batteries!

Bottom line is that, if you expect to ever camp without hookups, then you should get two matching deep cycle batteries.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will get another battery while it is new and they will match up.

I was about to install one on my Rockwood 2608 but after I figured a would would not be dry camping in the foreseeable future in Fl and out west where it's just too hot not to run the A/C , I bagged the idea and diverted the cash to resupply my adult beverage cabinet.

Batteries 1 or 2
Can never have too many batteries. I have four. Two sets of six volt deep cycle. Never have to worry about finding a place with power. Lasts about 4 days even with watching TV

I run 2 batteries, but not hooked together. As A. powers down I switch over to the B. battery and then charge up A. on my generator. Is there an advantage to having the 2 hooked together? My logic in having them separate was to always have a charged battery available.

I've found a lot better performance with 2. 6v batteries in series, making 12V.

Your generator should charge your battery wen you run it.

If you do a lot of dry camping I could see a use for a second or third one. I don't but am in the process of hooking up my generator for when I do. Even then I won't really need a second one because the generator will charge the one when it is running and the trailer is plugged into it.
Another thing you can do is plug the trailer into your truck and run it for 10 to 15 minutes. I use to do this when I had my pop-up to charge the battery n it.

Batteries 1 or 2
The only advantage to connecting the two batteries together is convenience. Souns like what you do could be a pain. Two batteries together will last twice as long but also take twice as long to charge. Best scenario is to connect your two batteries together and charge them both at the same time from your generator. There is no problem using anything while you are charging with your generator. No muss, no fuss.

Extra Batteries
As others have so eloquently stated, you can never have too much battery. If you can fit it, get it.

I used to have two 6 volt and found that wasn't enough. Large family with 3 children and lots of electronic toys. Upgraded to 4 6 volts and it was perfect! Could even use the furnace and still have lots of power left without worry.

Speaking of batteries, does anyone out there keep their trailer plugged into the vehicle overnight? Scenario I'm thinking of is having everything hooked up the night before and then take off early in the morning. As far as any battery drain, the truck should charge the TT battery while traveling.

Made the mistake of forgetting to plug cord into 110. 4 days later low batt on Camper and truck will not turn over. Still had cord plug into truck. Plug back into 110 charging and charge truck good Togo

As a bit of clarification. I hook the generator to the camper during permissible hours which charges my hooked-up battery and I concurrently charge the depleted (not hooked up) battery from the generator so I'm charging 2 at once. Some kind of switch between the 2 would be nice, but its not too bad loosening 2 wing nuts to switch cables (other than I'm working under a bunk). Will probably end up hooking the 2 together. I'll look into getting 4 of the 6 volt batteries when these start to go. I hear nothing but good things about 6 volt set-ups.

No. I always wanted a ready backup in case the trailer battery goes dead. The truck can recharge the trailer and it's your way to get home.
