12 volt t.v.

has anyone bought and used one of these? they are around $350.00 for a 22 inch flat screen tv/dvd. I was thinking of getting one for the kids so I dont have to fire up the generator every time they wanted to watch a show. we do a lot of dry camping and I wonder if its worth it to buy one of those or pay to have a 12 volt inverter/ converter put in so they can just use the regular 32"' tv in the main area. any thoughts?

My 2008 TT came with a 12 volt or 120 volt TV. I have used it both ways. The inverter would be much cheaper. TV's other than some of the new flat panels pull minimum amps. To size your inverter multiply the amps that the TV needs by 120 volts. That will give you watts and that is how they are sized. amps X volts = watts

Our 08 Flagstaff has the 22" Venturer digital HDTV, that is 12v. It really works good, in my opinion. We get about 20 antenna channels, that are clear as a bell! It also works when plugged in to shore power, because the trailer's power converter changes the power supplied to 12v. Randy

Here's a thought---
You could buy one of these Emerson 19" Class 720p HDTV LCD TV with Built-in Tuner, LC195EMX.
WalMart has it for $178.
It only uses 34 watts when on.
You can then power it with a small "cigarette socket" type inverter
that cost $20. IMO everyone should have one of these somewhere.
It can power your cell phone charger or charge your electric razor or charge or power most any small 120v device.
Of course you'd still need a DVD player but you can get them in the $30 price range.
IF your trailer has a working concertone you don't even need
another DVD player just a cable to reach the kids TV.

Have you asked your kids what they want???
They might actually prefer a small hand held personal DVD player.
Personal portable DVD players start at less than $100
Don't assume you know what they want!!
