292BHDS Bed Storage Lift

I just bought a new Freedom Express 292BHDS. I was really surprised that Forest River didn't install gas struts for the front bed storage. I figured I could do it myself. Not too hard to figure out, but I thought I would post the type of strut you need to buy in case you want to do this too.

Get 2 - 17" 50 pound (40 pound may do if you can't get 50). Also get two offset brackets (basically an "L" bracket) and two straight brackets. You'll use the regular straight bracket on the storage frame and the offset bracket on the plywood bed base. Need 3/4 inch wood screws for the bed base brackets since its not very thick plywood. I had to knock the tip of the screw end off to shorten it a little. I put the frame bracket about 4" from the hinge side and the just mounted the bed base bracket where the strut was fully extended. This might not make sense reading this but you'll see what I mean when you get to the project. I hope this was helpful to someone.

I did the same to my 26RL Grey Wolf. Very easy to do but I purchased the gas lifts at West Marine should have waited until I got to CW as they have them for 1/2 the cost of WM.

vwoval - the map is from a free site, www.visitedstatesmap.com
The struts I used are 80 lb struts as I have a 4" foam pad on my mattress and it adds a little weight to the bed. CW has all the brackets and struts you need at a less expensive option than most anywhere else. Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you.
