30 amp outlet garage mod

Last week I resided my detached garage & had a great opportunity to run a proper 30 amp outlet for the 5er. Had one before but it wasn’t much more than an extension cord through the wall.

While replacing rotten parts of the walls it was perfect time to run 17 foot “1/2 in Liquidtight Flexible Steel Conduit” from the 100 amp sub panel in the garage & fished a hot, natural & ground (all 10 gauge). I finished it outside with a “GE 30 Amp RV Power Outlet with Breaker” from Home Depot” .

I put a similar one in a few weeks ago for a friend. The bottom of the front cover is open so you can close it with your shore line plugged in. I don't know how much of a problem wasps are in your area, but in the south RV pedestal boxes make great places for wasps to build nests. I suggested to my friend that he tape up the gap or stuff some foam in the box to keep those pests out.

And yes, I did find a nest once and was rewarded with a swollen hand for the rest of the camping trip. Now I stand behind a pedestal and bump it before I open the cover.
