30amp to 50amp

Can you covert a 30amp system over to 50amp? If so what all would have to be done.

This could be done if you are handy. The biggest problem may be the fuse box in the RV. In many cases this is a combination unit converter/AC fuse panel/DC fuse panel. I would start by researching the fuse panel for your unit to determine how hard it would be. Of course you know that you would have to change the power cord, power connector and replace the wire from the power connector to the fuse box.

Yes, but here are the issues:

Need to replace 30 amp breaker box with 50 amp breaker box. Not that big of a deal.

Need to replace 30 amp RV cord with 50 amp inlet and cord to 50 amp breaker box. Accessibility is the issue here.

Now, to fully exploit to 50 amp service, you will probably want to run extra circuits. Again, accessibility is the issue.

Simply installing 50 amp service for your existing circuits will no doubt improve things, but you would have a lot of unused power.

30 amp RV service is 120 volt only. (1 leg, 30 amps.) This is 3,600 watts at your disposal. 50 amp service is 120/240. (2 legs, 50 amps.) This is 12,000 watts at your disposal.

Many people, especially salesmen, think all you get is a second AC unit when you go 50 amps. Untrue. You get more circuits and the ability to use them at the same time!
