One cheaper thought...you can buy threaded rod in various lengths & sizes and simply bend it into a square U shape. Here's a 6' length of stainless rod for $20 bucks that would give you plenty of rod to work with since you only need about 2ft. for each bracket.
3/8"-16 x 6 ft ASTM F593 Gr 18-8 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod | Fastenal
You can probably pick up some galvanized for less and check your local home depot or lowes. Just don't get plain threaded or you'll quickly have rust.

I have a cord holding it in during travel. I have no security. Others have made latches and locks.

Wonder how it would hold up being bent like that. I have used the all thread to make a few items in the past and they just snapped off when bent even a little. They seemed to have no strength.

Stay away from those kinds of people and places.

Seriously, it's like everything else, if a thief wants it, they'll get it regardless of locks, etc.

Try heating it with a propane torch where you want the bend.

I wondered if that might help or weaken it further.

Threaded rod is not the type of steel that would be changed by a propane torch other than burning off the plating.

Painting white vinyl fence post

I have a length of white vinyl fence post I'm going to use for my sewer hose. I'd like to paint it so it blends in better with my brown/tan trailer.

I've heard (but don't know if it's true) that painting vinyl in a dark color is not a good idea because of possible warping in the sun. Are these resistant to warpage? I certainly know, from years ago, what happens with vinyl records left in the sun, but don't know if the vinyl in these posts is different.

Would appreciate any advice concerning painting with a darker color (should I go with a lighter tan?), and what type of paint to use. Anyone painted their post in a darker color (black?)

Thanks!

DON'T DO IT!

I painted mine black to match the bumper & it's warped so bad I have to tug om my hose try to get it out....going to replace with white & leave it that way.

If it is going on the under belly why not just paint the parts you see ie the caps and last foot of it? Blends in but not all painted. I guess if it is on your bumper then that will not do.

I have the 5x5 sewer mod as well. I painted mine flat black to match the bumper. It is mounted under the bumper so it probably does not get a lot of direct sunlight. Also, I have the inside lined with 4 3/4" gutter that serves as a platform for the stinky slinky. So far, I have not noticed any warping *shrug* YMMV

My 5" posts are painted flat black with fusion plastic spray paint. Two years and no problems, but they are mounted under the trailer too

X4 on mine painted black, glossy black, and no problems with it mounted underneath. I cleaned scuffed and wiped clean with alcohol before painting.
I am in the auto collision industry and we paint plastic all the time. Almost every vehicle has painted plastic bumper covers or partials and no warpage unless it hits something
Oh and we have 100°+ temps every summer too.

Get the ubolt you need from a good supply store. Try McMaster-Carr.

Question....it seems like some are using 4x4 posts and others 5x5 posts for their slinkies. I have a Camco Rhino....Two 10 foot sections with caps. Anyone know what size to buy for it...will the the 4" work or am I better off with 5"?

5" is what I have and everything fits nicely. I haven't added the vinyl gutter yet, but plan to.
