A better electric stabilizer

Does anyone but Lippert make electric stabilizers?

I decided today to unexpectedly get started on swapping out my rear stabilizers - courtesy of pulling out of a parking lot onto the road and having the camper's rear drag. The lowest point was my stabilizers and it busted it all to heck. Actually ended up dragging one side until I got to a truck stop where it busted off and laid in the road behind me. I finished the removal.

ps, soon for sale- the motor (it came out unscathed).

Bumping this- does anyone know brands of electric stabilizers that they can recommend?

And, any idea of what weight capacity that I need?

Man that sucks, I think Lippert may be the only game in town.
On my old V Cross I added drag casters to protect the stabilizers. I couldn't even get out of my drive.

I've been debating casters. The more that I travel, the more that I drag on a pretty regular basis with this thing.

I got the heaviest I could get and had them welded on along with partially boxing the frame. Of course I tried to anticipate the dragging but never had any issues.
Good Luck

Thanks for the pics. We'll see.

As a stop gap, I've ordered a pair of scissor jacks and I'll see how they fair back there. Once I get electric stabilizers again, I'll move those scissor jacks to be near the axles for extra stabilization.

For some reason, I thought UF was owned by Lippert.

I'll take a look at these. I didn't have a very good experience with the UltraFab Eliminators (aka their JT StrongArms knock offs).

I feel for you Doug. I actually thought I dragged mine once pulling into a truckers parking lot besides a McDonalds, as there was a mud puddle there that originated in China, so it seemed when I found out how deep it really was.

However, when I checked, I could see no damage to the stabilizers. It was only when I got home, that I saw my rear steps was what had dragged as they were now at a 45 degree angle with the bottom of the trailer.

I did bend the rear stabilizers one time, in my haste to hook up, and forgot to retract them before raising the front of the trailer to connect to the TV.

My big fear was hitting the plumbing and having a mess. Wife was certain that the bumper was going to be majorly damaged. But oh well- stuff happens!

I've had those bend/fold/etc a couple times. and had 1 set replaced under warranty..(mechanical - not motor).. was able to keep the old one so i had some spare parts. for a while. that all went down the road and sure enough, bent another one. Not sure your location, but.. Was able to get a replacement for $75 from bontragers surplus (white pigeon, mi) and know they had complete assembly ones for around 125 if i recall. something you might want to check.. if shipping not too ugly! IF you sell that motor, i might be interested. TIA!

I found this in my Beckley RV catalog. Stromberg Carlson Products. Not sure if it's better but...

Thanks for the Stromberg find. I found them also but have no idea if 3,200 lbs. is heavy-duty enough.

I emailed Sabre and got a part number for the existing one that I have. Lippert doesn't post a weight capacity so I asked them. Even with that- they didn't get a number. So, no idea where theirs comes in at.

I do generally like the Stromberg stuff.

If you have the cash, think about getting automatic levelers.

$4,500+ for my camper. I've explored it before.

Did the same thing, was on the way to Goshen for the Int. Rally FR replaced the for me even though unit was just out of warranty. Like the idea of wheel, just wonder if the axle of the wheel will handle the weight if tt. I have to back into my drive so do not have issue, if I pulled in forward would probably drag the rear. We try to come home in the daylight so we can get into drive and watch to hopefully prevent issues. Learned this after hitting the wall over the drainage pipe and hitting the plumbing drain. Lowered the wall by 6 inches by removing a couple rows of brick.

I'm always impressed at what FR will do at the rally. Maybe I'll just carry my busted one around for a year and then see if they'll replace it. This boat/ocean-like feel is kind of fun...

Good luck in your repairs!

I'm thinking of starting a TV show called "Surprise! Mods".

Stronger and more stable. The ones that I have now still allow a lot of movement. I'm hopeful that if I end up with something a bit more stout that I'll end up having something with less movement.
