Added shelf to curved wall in bathroom

Needing somewhere for DW's curling iron, shampoo, etc. I added a small shelf to the curved wall in the bathroom. Will add a couple of cup hooks to the bottom so she can hang the curling iron to cool. Luckily there were 2 studs spaced appropriately in the wall. We think I need to take a trip to Lowes for some darker stain before DW gives her final approval. She's 99% satisfied, but...

Also added 3 small shelves to the side of the medicine cabinet.

Very nice woodworking skills.

It looks like they were there from the factory, too!

Stain-matching is never really easy......

Well after 3 more different stains, all of which didn't match to suit me, I scrapped the original and cut new trim boards out of another pc of scrap that I made the shelf out of, mounted some coat hooks that were supposed to be mounted vertical but work out better in this situation and finished the project. DW even likes it. Will miracles never cease?

Your a good guy! My DH is the same...if not happy, he tears it down and makes it better...I have learned to stay out of the way when he is creating and trust that I expressed my idea well enough to not frustrate his effort. haha. You did a great job! Looks extremely capable of handling the hair appliances...yay no chance of accidental counter burns! LOL

I really like the coat hooks underneath.
Great idea for adding storage and reclaiming wasted space.

The curved wall has 2 wooden studs about 10"-12" apart which makes it easier to attach to the wall. Just requires careful drilling with a 1/2" forstner bit to within 1/2" of the back edge of the shelf and then drilling an 1/8" hole thru the remaining 1/2" AFTER installing a screw so you know where to drill from the other side. I cut the sides of the shelf off square with the front so the side trim pcs could be beveled to match the curve and add support. Did not attach the side pcs to the wall as there is nothing to screw to except the thin paneling. Screws were installed thru the side pcs into the shelf. You just have to make sure the side screws are far enough out from the wall so you can get a screwdriver bit and a 1/4" wrench to them to tighten. No screws in the front trim altho' you could angle drill and install some.

Wow, nice work. How did you match the stain? Did you mix it?

Used a pc of a replacement table extension for the entire shelf & trim and only had to stain the edges of the trim. Used Rustoleum Dark Cherry on the edges which pretty well matches. If you were starting with unfinished wood, it would take a lot of experimenting with mixing. The Dark Cherry is a little too maroon by itself and needs toning down a bunch with just a dark walnut stain.
