CW sells a folding 6' step ladder that folds up into a 4" square and some people hang a 4" or 5" fence post under the RV to store it. I've seen some longer that 6' that weren't step ladders also that fold up into a 4" square. You just have to watch you don't get pinched when you fold or unfold it.

The Forester 2401S and W have rear ladders but the 2401R does not due to the rear slider - and the dealer confirmed one cannot be added to the rear, there simply is not space for it without blocking the slider or the tail lights etc. So we got one of these and keep it in the rear compartment. It's 13' when fully extended which is enough to get onto the roof if needed to fix something or remove debris. We also use it to clear debris off the top of the rear and side slider covers before retracting, so the fact that it's easily moved is a big plus. It's a bit of a tradeoff due to 30# weight, but we felt it was a necessity not to be stranded with no way to fix things on the roof or the upper areas of the sliders. Current price: $79 which is a little bit less than we paid.

how close to the dealer are you that you could return and photograph the ones you saw?
it might be worth the trip if close - especially if you get a "no it can't be done reply again"

Interesting. We have a Freedom Express Liberty Edition 322RLDS and our dealership said that when they called FR, they were told YES, a ladder could be added. They quoted me a price of 250.00.
