adding a rear ladder

We have a FR Shamrock 19 and are thinking about adding a rear ladder so we can sit up to watching races etc. We were told sitting up top is fine, just don't put chairs up there. Any thoughts or suggestions as to should we even consider this?

Most TTs without a ladder are not blocked off at the factory for a ladder install. You are looking for trouble and leaks.

We too wanted a rear ladder. Our dealer (very trusted) advised against it.

The dealer does not know. They only order options and did not build the trailer. Only the factory knows if it has backing material and you need to contact them with your model # and VIN#. They will direct you who to talk to and probably another installation person where to position it. Mine did not have a ladder and after talking with the factory, ordered (ladder) through the dealer and it was available in 2 pieces instead of 1 whole piece which saved on shipping. Pre-drill pilot holes as not to splinter the surface and put silicone on your installation screws to seal penetration holes. If you are handy with tools, you will not have a problem.

As advised above, check with FR division. I wanted to add a ladder to my 2012 Flagstaff and the dealer told me one could not be added after it was built. When I toured the Flagstaff plant, I noticed that blocking was being installed on both sides of the TT. Ask tech how they knew which units got ladders and was told, blocking is cheap! They install it on all Flagstaff units. Asked and got one installed at FROG rally the next day! Again check the division and by year, as thing do change!

adding rear ladder tip

Surveyor broke out in a rash on me too when I wanted to add a ladder they refused to sell me one and refused any info to help. I'm waiting for the warranty to be up.

But what I have done since is I have measured other trailers at the dealer simular to mine. They do not offer a model on mine because of the refer exhaust is on the right side and trailer regulators say you cannot put a ladder there. I think they are afraid that someone may hang a towel to dry on the ladder and it might catch fire. I'm putting mine up the middle where there is a small skylight that I will just have to step over.

I just bought an electronic stud finder from Costco for around 30 bucks. "precision sensors" stud finder. It did a great job of showing me where the supports were for a ladder to be mounted. My findings matched with the measurements I took from the simular models. On a cold morning I can see the supports on the side of my trailer but for some reason that trick does not work on the back. Happy tyrails....Walt

Can a ladder be added to a hybrid? Those I've seen on other trailers were all mounted on the rear. That wouldn't work very well with the bunk door. Are there alternative locations?

In the bumper or a vinyl fence post mod?

Actually, I already have the 5' version of that in the bumper. It doesn't get me on the roof. The 7' version wouldn't, either.

The design is very good but, as rickety as the 5' version is, I don't think I'd be comfortable climbing any higher on the 7' version, anyway.

Thanks, anyway.
