I purchased a small safe from Home Depot and mounted it under the bed. Something like this.

LockState, Digital Lock Small Closet Safe, LS-17EN at The Home Depot - Tablet

We have a file size fire safe that we just set on the floor in the closet and take back and forth to the house as needed.

Small safe under bed (properly secured of course) for items if we are off on an adventure. We also have one for the console of our truck which is a really nice fit.

We hauled that little fire safe around just laying on the floor for well over 100,000 miles including to Alaska and back on the AlCan and never had any problem with it needing to be secured. It is fairly heavy, probably about 50-60lbs.

Here's mine, mounted in the wardrobe slide. It is large enough for a couple of laptops, our camera, iPad/Nook and a few personal protection devices.
