Alternates to this flip down rack..

I really wanted this rack for our new Arctic Wolf, however after talking with Lippert it sounds like it won't fit. The body of the camper over hangs the main frame by a couple inches, thus reducing the exposed secondary frame that the bumper mounts to, which according to Lipperts needs to be at least 3.75" exposed.

So i can either still buy this one and do some modifications to their bracket (with safety in mind) or find a different rack. I would prefer to have the rack mount to that secondary frame vs. buying a receiver hitch assembly that mounts to the 3rd frame on my camper.

Any ideas?

I have seen that rack advertised on units for sale. Check the FR brochure for bicycle rack.

I know what it is, where to buy it, etc.....the problem is it won't fit because not all Forrest River campers and Lippert built frames are identical and made for it.

So the question is, do i modify it to work, or are there others similar (non-lippert) racks out there?

Ok, I did see it available for the Artic Wolf in the FR brochure when I was shopping them.

Good luck in your search.

I asked LCI (Lippert) which model fit my Crusader. They sent me a model number and it appears to mount on the tubing directly behind the bumper. Get on their site and contact them. They will ask for your frame serial number and they will then tell you which model will fit. BTW, you will need to move your spare tire.

I did this, and that's how i came up the conclusion i'm at with that rack.

The frame number tells them which rack of theirs (Lippert) will fit on the frame they built. However, once the frame leaves them, they can't control what happens with the body. So in my case, the body is slightly longer than the main frame, therefor the rack won't fit.

If you order the rack as a factory-installed option when the trailer is built, they use a slightly longer frame to allow about 5 inches to stick out behind the body, and mount the rack to the extended frame rails. Without that option, the rails aren't long enough to accommodate the bike rack as an after-build option. You would be better off to go with a receiver welded to your frame under the trailer body.

I don't care for the receivers because of the bounce/sway they get because of everything pivoting on the single square receiver.

willie1280 ~ do you have any welding/fabrication shops in your area?? If so, take your rig and a picture of this rack over and talk to them. Ask about installing square tubing strengthened with 'fish plate'. With that question, they should be able to help manufacture what you need.
Good Luck ~~

I recently ordered this rack on a whim from ppl. Our 5th wheel bumper is welded right to the end of the frame rails. I plan to cut the bumper off the frame, weld extensions like yours but longer onto the bumper and frame. Then it's no problem to put the rack on. What you have going on would be some quick work for a fab shop.

I saw a rack at Walmart that I can install hitch at the back of my Cedar Creek, what I plan on doing is keep the rack in back of my truck. I want to sit the Honda's on the rack when I don't have hookups at the back of camper that way the Honda's will be off the ground. I don't want the Honda's in the back of Silverado as my bedroom is there and I can hear the Honda's, at the back of camper I can't hear them
