Amazing deal on a Trailair Pinbox

So I had some time to kill this morning and decided to check out Craigslist. I typed in my usual searches - 5th wheel, RV, Camper, camping..... All of my searches yielded the usual stuff. Until my last search, which I have never searched before - Pinbox. Low-and-behold I see a Lippert 1621 Trailair pinbox listed for $250. Thinking that it was a scam, I almost passed on it. But then I said "what the heck" and I texted the seller. Turns out that the deal is legit and the item is located 3mi from my house.
I plan a meet-up time, check it over, inflate the airbag, check for leaks and everything checks out. When I questioned the owner he stated that he did not use it, that he formerly worked at a dealership and acquired the pinbox when it was taken off of a new RV and replaced with an upgraded model pinbox. Not sure how true that story was but from what I see, there is little-to-no wear on the base plate, the kingpin still has the factory paint on it and the DOM is 12/27/16 (so it is not even 2yrs old).
Anyway, when I get home, I wash the pinbox (it was a bit dirty as the owner said it had been sitting in a carport for about 6mo) to get a better look and confirm my initial inspection that the pinbox was nearly new.
To make the deal even sweeter, I negotiated the price down to $225.

Thanks for reading,

I am hoping to install it this weekend. Additionally, I will also have to fabricate and weld a new mount with a 2” receiver so I can have a place to transport my bikes.

Nice, price is good. I got mine for $100 in a garage sale and the guy installed it for me but it was used and I had to buy a different air bag for my pin weight.

Great find!

I replaced my pin box with a flex air that has the rubber shock in it. Traveled 5500 miles and worked great on those smooth (LOL) interstates. But camper was totaled so I removed the flex air pin box and put the old pin box on. Now moving to a class c. Still have the flex air.

Well that is purely conjecture on your part.

Did it burn your hands when you picked it up........ sounds like it was hot.

A former employee and he acquired it................ very hot !!!!!!!

Not likely a dealer would give a almost new part away, that they could get $225 plus out of, especially to an employee that they were going to fire or was quitting.

I see it all the time.

This is why when you get a deal like this one (too good to be true), you keep it to yourself

Exactly !!!

If it is stolen the new owner is also guilty of a crime.

Four RED Flags..... 1. Seller no longer works for the dealership, 2... He "acquired" an almost new part that the dealership could have sold. 3... Seller held onto it for 6 months before selling. 4.. Low price.......

New owner jail time for buying and possession of stolen property.

Someone on here knows officers on the Spotsylvania County Sheriffs office.

The new owner is NOT guilty of a crime, unless he had knowledge that it was in fact stolen.

He is in a position to have the stolen item taken from him and returned to the rightful owner by Law Enforcement though. WITHOUT any compensation at all.

The rightful owner Does NOT have to pay to get his own property back.

I work at a company that does assembly work on valves and other mill items. We end up with all kinds of stuff left over. We don't sell it as new(very often)and if we do it is sold as surplus with a discount. It could easily be this came in. Got swapped(maybe for free labor) and the new surplus left. Then it's open for the highest bidder/taker sometimes. I could give examples, but I think one can understand. Maybe I just don't automatically assume the worst.
