Another shelf mod in my 2109S

Well, I have yet to go camping in my new rig, but am modifying it up. Added a shelf in each side cabinet next to bed. Also removed the window valences next to these cabinets to allow the door to fully open. Shelves are the pantry 20" ones by Closet Maid.

Was considering a similar mod for our Rockwood 19. What length/size of screw did you use?

That is a great, inexpensive mod because those cabinets are such a waste of space.

It is a nice shelf but these 2 closets beside your bed are made to hang shirts, pants etc. It looks to me that there is not much room left for this purpose!

I guess it all depends on your needs.

In our case, none of the clothes we bring/wear or need on camping trips are of the 'hanging style', more like the backpack style: fold and stuff, unfold and wear, then to the laundry bag.

I like it also I can never use the rod to hang shirts because they would crumple at the bottom any way. I might just have to do this one. Very nice

DH and I also have a 2109S. To solve the hanging clothes dilemma in the wardrobes by the bed, we bought Lynx brand hangars at Camping World (6 for about $6 U.S.). These hangers have short "necks"; that is, the length from the part that goes over the rod to the "shoulders" of the hanger is very short and gives about 3 inches more hanging space. No more crumpled clothes! The wardrobes will handle about 12 hangers with no problem.

We don't ever have clothes that we hang while camping either...nothing too dressy needed for our outdoor excursions. We weren't sure where we wanted to install the shelves right away...wanted more time to get things really we bought the cloth hanging shelves that hang from the bar and it gives us like 4 shelves inside each closet. The shelves come with 6 shelves, but they accordion closed for the ones you don't use. A friend of ours did the same thing on one closet, but left the bar for hanging clothes on the other one, so has the best of both worlds. This is a good idea for those people that are new to their 2109s and are still getting things put away "just right".
