I think this is because of one of two things. Without a schematic in front of me, the old orig. thermostat has a orange power wire (may have been red) of like 7 volts or so; you tape that one up, and don't use it, because the new one uses it's own battery. Also, at least on mine, the old thermo had a "hi and low" switch for 2 speed operation, that the new one may not have. I THINK if I remember right that LOW was a brown wire, and blue was high. I used blue, and it is recommended. Hope this helps! Randy
