anyone found an LED porch light bulb that preforms as well as an Incandescent

so i am on an LED kick lately.... the one light assembly that i cannot get to perform well with an LED bulb is the yellow porch light right over the main door. has anyone had any luck with this conversion? normally i wouldn't raise such a fuss around it, but this light is probably the on the MOST at night on my camper. so far i have tried these combos with poor results...

yellow lens with white automotive style 1156 led bulb - 360 Degree White 13 LED 1156 Bulb Reverse Back Up Light | eBay . this bulb doesn't have an obnoxious amount of individual led's like some of this style do....but i figured it would still do the job. i was wrong... i would guess i get around half the light output of the good ol' yellow lens/1156 standard bulb

clear lens with yellow automotive style 1156 led bulb - 360 Degree Amber 13 LED 1156 Bulb Flasher Turn Light | eBay . same exact bulb as my last test....only yellow. i get a little more output from this combo with the clear lens.....but still far from the standard equipment

yellow lens with flat led panel (36 white led's) - 2 x Car Bulbs 1156 BA15S 36-LED White Panel Light | eBay . i thought this would be my ticket. i have a few of this style bulb in the inside of my camper on the ceiling and they work pretty darn good. however, not the same results outside.

i'm not sure where im going wrong here.... is it the fact that i'm not using the 20 dollar bulbs.......or is it just a lost cause. i have found this bulb LEDTrailerLights.com - L05-0012 RV LED interior / exterior porch light 1141 1156 1003 dayligh white , but i don't know how this would perform any better than the last example i provided above.

id greatly appreciate any input on other peoples experiences with the porch light!

I've only started experimenting with LEDs as well; however I have found the bulbs with the flat panels to be the best bang for the buck.

I was thinking of picking up a pair of these bulbs. The one good thing with Deal Extreme is most of their bulbs give the number of lumens which allows you to do a direct comparison.

Just don't be in a hurry; my last order took a month to get here. Previous order was just under 3 weeks. It all depends on when that slow boat from China is due to leave.

Starlights are very good but expensive, you can get the same lights on ebay direct from China for $1-$3 as long as you dont mind waiting as ken0042 said 3-weeks. Bocephus, Ive been playing around also ...have an order due in the next 2-weeks, bought alot of different styles of LED's, Maybey between the two of us we'll get this figured out ! having problem with outside spot light also. I'll keep trying, maybe in this next order!

Another option for you is something that is more of a "thinking outside the box" solution. Of course this one depends on how close you are to the Canadian border.

I have a few of these lanterns. These often go on sale for $10 each and I can confirm that the LED lantern lasts for over 12 hours. The lantern is also plenty of light to see by. The killer on it is the spotlight; that only lasts about 15 minutes.

They include both the A/C charger and the cigarette charger; so I would charge it in my tow vehicle during the day.

The one downside is they say the battery is designed to only last a year. (My original one is coming up on that age.) So at $10 it is a great deal; $40 regular price may be a little much.

I'm doing the same thing as you...changing over to LED's.

Check Walmart, automotive dept., trailer lights. I've seen fixtures very reasonable there. I just replaced my step light with one that cost me around $5.

Similar to this: Walmart.com: Blazer LED Oval Stop, Turn and Tail Light Kit, Amber: Automotive

I'm not sure if this will satisfy your lighting requirements, but open the package carefully, test out, and if it doesn't work, simple to return.

I've had success with the one's I've tried. I did have to modify the mounting slightly as the holes didn't match the factory, but end results look great!

these bulbs are just a different version of the ones i have tried... the round automotive style just dont seem to work. sure there are a billion individual leds on the assembly.....but they are all smaller. lots of smaller leds.....fewer larger leds.....i dont think it matters. and how do they measure the light output of these bulbs. i know it may say 300 lumens....but with a round bulb. a flat bulb putting out 300 lumens is concentrated in one direction. maybe i dont understand how lumens are calculated....but that seems logical to me

well, after bummin' around online all evening, looking at different forums, reviews, etc... i decided to bust out the check book and order some of the expensive bulbs. i ordered a couple of the 300 lumen bulbs (crossing fingers). i intend to try them out inside and compare them to the cheaper leds i already have, and obviously outside in the porch light.

If you've used the Flat 36-SMD LED's, They are right around 300 lumens--288 to be exact.

This looks like it would do a good job - velcro'ed it mounts easily and only sends light in front.

i have some similar to that 2 x Car Bulbs 1156 BA15S 36-LED White Panel Light on eBay.ca (item 330540871784 end time 26-Apr-11 21:29:13 EDT)

these did not have near the light output as a regular bulb in the porch light. i am fairly impressed with them on the interior though.

Correct, with only 9 LEDs they would not shine that bright, but for a porch light, maybe enough for some.

The trick is to find a bayonet adapter (BA15) equipped flat style LED with the number of LEDs - brightness you need.

I have 24 and 36 LEDs inside and I love them - just right but these did not ship with the bayonet adapters.

RVWholesalers Has The Light

RVWholesalers has the "Smart LIGHT 1000" for $54.95. Ordered and installed it on my 8285WS, super bright, good security light. The motion sensor (after adjusting) works fantastic.

The price elsewhere is around $90.00.

Whew, I'm glad to see that I am not the only one with an LED addiction. I will have to look into some of these links for the outside light. I stuck with the incandescent bulb outside because it's only 1 bulb, and provides the best light, but if I find a comparable LED, the outside bulb is gone.
