Assorted mods to my surveyor

So far I have, modified the rear wardrobe into an adjustable pantry, made my version of Chatam Chocks, made a trailer test box for checking the brakes & lights. I plan to stain the pantry to match. Notice on the pic of the box that there is a long cord for a remote momentary switch to actuate the brakes while I am at the wheel to verify they are working the little red dot in the top corner is a had toggle switch to lock the brakes. I also added a holding tube (2" pvc) to the front stowage compartment. Elsewhere I have documented a mod to the manual tongue jack for drill operation, a lift kit to clear the curb at the house and a remote light switch so you can turn on lights as you walk in vs fumbling in the dark. Doesn't the wheels open up when you engage the home made chock ? I thought that the axels we have opens up when you use these kind of chocks ....

well since I can't go camping due to the lack of vacation time for the wife, I figured that I might as well do something.

As far as the wheels/axle go, they are biased to the same side so they don't spread like you thought. I have a modest bite on the chocks now and it's enough to skid the tires when pulled by the truck. Not something I would recommended but I want to be sure they would hold. i basically tensioned the chocks until I could see the tires flex a little.

I've used them on three trailers with torsion axles, no problems.

I have the under bed stowage bay in my camper and I'm sure everyone can agree that the support gas struts are barely enough to hold the cheap mattress in the raised position. Let alone when you have bedding and what not.

I managed to find cheap replacement gas struts for $20 a piece on e-bay. I am pleased to report that 2 ea 120# rated struts are more than a match for my bedding. The originals were SUSPA p/n c16-08053 rated at 80# ea. The new struts are SUSPA p/n c16-08055. They are the same physical size/stroke just a higher weight rating. the c16-08054 struts are rated for 100# ea if you were looking for something a little less agressive but the 2 ea 120# units don't seem to be taxing the hinge or connections and easily hold the trap door open with the mattress and about 40# of bedding installed.
