Awning Poles

Love this design, but I have a dumb question...Why use awning poles? Is it so you can leave your awning out if a storm comes by because your awning is tied down and supported?

I just haven't seen any campers with awning poles except pop-up campers. Maybe I am not paying attention, which could very well be the case.

We use them for automatic awnings that cannot be tied down with out the poles.
Old manual awnings you could take the lower support arms off the side of the camper and tie down.
The new autos. Don't have the lower poles to tie down.

Yes for wind !

They also allow you to utilize a sunshade without overloading the flimsy arms. I doubt you will see very many as they are not commercially manufactured. I have made 45-50 sets for the people on this forum and 2 of my friends in FL.

Friends of ours have wind sensors on their awning, and auto dump for rain. How would these poles affect that?

Update!

Here are my awning poles in use. They worked very well all week. Only had to take it down once due to 30 mph wind gusts. I like having them around now

Old coot what do make yours out of they look like alum. I'm a sheet metal worker here in Baton Rouge Louisiana and I rather use metal for any of my camper projects. Can you take a close up of the poles you make
