If that question was directed at me, I store them here.
Old Coot's aluminum ones store on the awning itself, but I made these to carry some of my stuff like the poles.

This is how the alum poles stow. The pvc poles stow the exact same way.

I followed the post on the Wildcat Forum but made my inner pole a foot longer than his due to my camper being so tall. Started out with a 10' stick of 2" schedule 40 PVC and 2 pieces of 1 1/2" PVC. I cut the 2" piece in half to give me 2- 5 foot sections. I then cut the 1 1/2" pieces each to a length of 6' long. I drilled a 1/2" hole 5" down from the top of the inner(1 1/2") piece for my anchor point. I then capped the outer(2") piece on the bottom and put the inner one inside. Drilled first hole through both sections, then removed inner and started from the first hole and drilled 3/8" holes every two inches down to two feet from the bottom. Re-inserted it and put the reducer on the top for the saddle. I cut the saddle flanges off with a mitre saw so they wouldn't touch the fabric on the awning. My saddles are going to be removable so that I can store them in my new storage tubes(another mod today and another thread-can be seen in last pic). I know they are not permanently installed but will do for my beach and lake trips! Thanks to the others for the idea.

After having my automatic awning flop up against the camper in high winds last weekend, i tried this and it worked great. the only thing i did differently is that i used a 2" flange cap that has wholes in the bottom so water can run out if it rains.

We will be having 4 raffles at Goshen, first one will be Mon and another Tues., etc. Tickets will be $5 ea., so if you're going to Goshen, you can possibly get a set of self storing poles at a discounted price. Naturally, the more tickets you buy the better your chances. The tickets will only be good for that days drawing.
p.s. I will be bringing the last set of pvc poles I made also. PM me for a price.

Very smart and resourceful people. You should get a patent and start selling them on Amazon and ebay.

Would a strap hooked from the awning down to a metal screw in tiedown do the same thing without the pole?

No !
It will pull your awning down as if you had it set for water run off.
Then your door will most likely not open.

And if you pull to hard, you will break something.. NEED the down poles and brackets to attach them with.

Last year at Myrtle Beach in an afternoon storm, I saw 6 campers with power awnings that had damage to them by pulling off the side supports. That is why I started looking into the solution and saw OC's pvc posts. And yes, I should've bought the aluminum ones that he was making.

I went and bought the supplies to make the support arms but I have a couple of questions. What size reducer did you use to make the saddle? I found a 2" to 3". What size pin did you use to hold the pipes together? I found a round clip pin with a usable length of 1 3/4" and a square clip pin with a usable length of 3". The DW wanted them painted black so do you think the paint will even stay on the PVC? Couldn't find the Fusion paint but found Rust-Oleum painters touch 2X ultra cover, says it also bonds to plastic. HC

It will bond to plastic just takes I think like 7 days to cure fully.
1/4 pin to hold two pieces together.

Turbs appreciate the info. What length of pin...I want to say to the O.D. of the 2" PVC pipe is 2 3/8 but I couldn't find a pin with that stated usable length, could only find 1 3/4 or the larger 3". May just need to go with a bolt and wing nut combination, author the pin would be easier to keep up with. Any idea of where I could find a 2 1/2 usable length pin? HC
