Battery box upgrade or?

Was looking at the battery on the front of the rv strapped down in a plastic case with either a bungee or flat strap holding the whole assembly together. Seems to me this is kind of a rinky dink set up that was almost an after thought. Was wondering if any of you have come up with a way to secure and cover the battery without resorting to bungee's and straps?

I was considering a Batteryshackle to secure my batteries from theft. It still uses the plastic cases, but it adds a steel cage with padlocks (not included). Comes in various sizes and single or double. See from various vendors such as Amazon.

Pretty much standard fare. Plastic battery box with a flat webbing strap or bungee.

There are other options out there but their pricy.

I had one of their's sent to me to review and got to keep it for my trouble. Was a nice box and held up decently and certainly up-ed the security of my batteries, not that I've ever had a issue with theft of them when they were in the plastic boxes with webbing strapped around them.

With new AGM and Lithium batteries, some put them in their storage compartments now since they require no maintenance.

Have seen the plastic box with a strap since 1968. They used to be white/ red and crumbled in the Sun due to UV. The new black ones are much better. If you are concerned you can always use a tie down style strap across the opposite way to hold the lid down as well.

If I spent that much money on lithium batteries, I would hide them, too.

AGM may be no maintenance, but they still off-gas and need to be ventilated. Who wants a hydrogen buildup in their storage compartment? Think "Hindenberg".

Don't know about everyone else, but my battery boxes are bolted to the cross-bars. The nylon straps are just an added means to secure the tops along with the snap-in tops. Was delivered that way.

When I was thinking about 2 GC batteries on the tongue, I was looking at a truck tool box. My lithiums are mounted under my bed. The plastic battery box is mounted on the tounge still as a decoy

My batteries are in the old traditional battery boxes but to make sure they stay mine I've added a couple of master "Python" cable locks.

If one wants something that looks more "upscale" there are numerous marine battery enclosures made that hold several batteries in a secure case. These can be installed with lead acid batteries inside a storage compartment as long as a vent is added to the outside from the battery enclosure. These boxes are waterproof and designed to protect the batteries on boats even if sinking so radios remain operative until the last second.

Or, one can just use the $12 box that has done so well for decades

I mounted a plastic tool storage box to the tongue. It's big enough for 3 batteries if I wanted. I typically have two batteries, a gallon of DI water and some other battery maintenance tools in it. I can padlock it if I feel it is necessary.

I have the Torklift Power Armor box that holds 4 batteries. Yes, it was pricey but it is very functional and looks great.

You can’t beat the quality and customer service of Torklift, no matter what it is they sell. Everything they sell is great. You really do get what you pay for.
