Battery Cutoff Switch/Fueling
Searched but the data is vast and not specific to my question.
When I fuel up the tow vehicle, I have to go inside the TT and turn off the fridge so that it does not try to light when I am fueling.
Would it not be a good idea to install a battery disconnect switch so that I don't have to unlock the TT and go inside and switch off the fridge? Could just get out and turn off the BDS, fuel up, pull forward out of the pump area, return the BDS to on, and be on our way.
Sounds like a solid idea to me.

Do you disconnect your Tow Vehicle battery when you refuel? Of course not.

Yes that should work to turn the refrigerator off while fueling. I installed a toggle switch in the truck cab that when on, turns on a relay at the refrigerator that does the same thing, it disconnects the 12v circuit to the refer and shuts it off. It use it for refueling and stopping for a while with the trailer not level. (FYI I have a second umbilical wire to the TT for other circuits including the refer relay.)

You could install a normally closed mechanical timer on the refrigerator access door maybe 15 minutes or so to turn it off and will go back on by itself in case you forget.

Secure propane and elect to fridge. All goods will be safe in the fridge for 12hrs.

I never turn it off when fueling, the fridge burner is 20 or 25 ft away from the pump and on the opposite side of the vehicle. It would need to be 1 or 2 feet away to get the fumes to ignite. Any further than that and they dissipate quickly.

Never have turned it off. Fumes are heavier than air and sink to the ground and disperse.

I don't turn off the fridge either. As said, gasoline vapors are heavy. Unless you turn the pump right at the fridge burner, I can't see how it would ever be a problem. I would be much more worries about some jalopy backfiring through the exhaust than I would about the fridge.
That said, a battery kill switch will flip the fridge circuit off.

Would you not think that when you pull into a filling station that there are a half a dozen other vehicles filling up and that there are 'fumes' everywhere (and you have an open flame trailing behind you)? Have you blown up yet? imo, leave your fridge on, it may be more of a hazardest to turn it off and then on again than leaving it alone. Never have shut it off on my units in 30 years of pulling.

Alright, so the consensus seems to be don't bother turning off the fridge when fueling the truck. No one seems to be concerned about the auto ignite of the fridge lighting off some stray fumes from maybe the person in the other lane gassing up.
Suppose the cell phone ignition is just a myth then, too.
Forget about being safe in a potentially volatile situation.

Although rare we did have a TT burn up at the flying J while refueling the TV a few years back. It was reported to be the frig pilot light. Very rare but Not worth the risk.
I always cringe when the person next pump over is on their cell & getting stuff in & out of the car (static build up) & I leave if they are smoking too........
