Beware Ramco hidden costs

In a long painful search for a specific TV mount for my son's camper I finally found it on the Ramco Engineering site.

The mount which has two holes for a drop in mount on the back of your flat screen TV. The part is approx 8"x8"x2" and weighing less than 2lbs was available on their site for $25. Ramco is in Indiana and I live in Florida.

I chose to purchase it through paypal and when it totaled the order I noticed that it had listed $25 dollars for standard UPS ground. Now, I know that's exorbitant because just a week earlier I shipped a receiver to Buffalo, NY that weighed 15lbs in a 12"x17"x22" box that was shipped 2 day air for $17.

I did not confirm the order and called them today thinking it was a mistake but the person at Ramco said that the shipping was calculated through the UPS site. I told him there must be a calculation error and he should look into it but he didn't seem too interested. I began to think this was the same ploy taken by eBay sellers to sell something at an extremely low price but screwed you in the shipping to make up for it.

I called my local UPS store gave them the specifications and was told that it would cost me less than $6 but the exact cost couldn't be figured until I brought it in.

I guess I'll keep looking for that specific mount.

So before you select "confirm order" check the shipping costs when ordering from them.

I ordered my mount from ramco. That is the only place you are going to find it. Ended up being over a hundred dollars once I got it to Canada. I guess it is a question of how bad you want to watch tv?

Not defending UPS, but the minimum charge here is over $9. $25 is out of line...you can ship 40-50 lbs. for that.

Ohhh no. I hate UPS. I process the shipments at work everyday. When fuel was going up we got updates almost every day. NOT ONE TIME since have the shipping rates gone back down that I am aware of. Guess what? I guess they are the best, because they are on top.

The box size will be larger than the 8 x 8 x 2 size of the mount........ not sure that that price is that out of line. $50 for a specific mount seems reasonable to me & the $25 shipping charge may not be that out of line. I ship stuff all the time. Shipping is very high now.

I shipped a 7 lb box ground to Indiana from Virginia few days ago it cost $29.

My brother ships 20 - 75 packages daily. He complains about charges at the Post Office. He said UPS would put him out of business....

Check MaxQ RV TV mounts. Many dealers are offering their products, but as of a month ago I ordered straight from their sit. MaxQmetalproducts. Com. Also if you do not need a lockable swing arm try monoprice.com.
