Bicycle Mounting
Our new 23MK has a real nice shelf on the back of the trailer for larger bulk items. I really want to be able to haul our mountain bikes, but I have no idea how to get this to work. Anyone out there figure out how to haul a couple bikes on a rear shelf?

Pics of this "shelf" would be helpful, as I've never heard of a shelf on the back of a trailer.
Do you mean a cargo platform/tray?

I believe that Lippert makes these and have parts for carrying bikes.
Check their website.

This is the bike rack I mounted using U bolts (home depot) I just dunt use the bar tgat you insert into your hitck. I did have to place wood bars under it before securing it to the cargo rack to the tire pieces could be moved around. The bad part is I'll have to remove it to fold the cargo rack up. I've seen folding racks but I'm cheap and didn't want to spend much.

If that bike rack doesn't say 'Safe For RV's'...it probably won't last long.
Might want to train a camera on it so you can watch it fall off.

I put a ratchet strap on them too. The bike rack is only there to hold the bikes up. Not really holding the bikes only. Btw not sure why it would fall apart seeing that it's safe (they say) to be mounted to ur hitch.

A good photo of the fold-down rack showing all of the parts will help...
Is there a post laying flat along the back edge of the rack?
If it has one...that is what the bikes are supposed to be attached to while towing.
My previous TT had the slide-out rear bumper, which is basically the same thing as the fold-down (which I opted out of on my 5'ver) and it came with the post.
However, it was such a major PITA to strap the bikes down that I found the we never took the bikes off of the rack because I dreaded the half hour it took to put them back on the bumper before heading home.
It was when I realized that every photo I took of the camper while we were out camping still had the bikes on the rack that I finally stopped taking them
You can see the post between the bikes and the spare tire (ironically, I took this shot at the very last campout we ever made with this TT as I traded it in while it sat at this campground (Cherry Creek State Park, Denver) the day before these were taken:

Mounting bikes to the back bumper of a camping trailer is a lot different than to the hitch of a vehicle.
There is so much bounce there that it takes more than a couple of straps to secure...
Not to mention that not all camper rear bumpers are strong enough to handle the weight and the bounce of that weight.
You might want to contact Forest River with your VIN# to see if the bumper on your camper is able to handle the weight.
Others will chime in here with more detailed knowledge about this.

My cargo rack on my grey wolf is not mounted to the bumper. It's welded to the frame and has a carrying cap of 200lbs. But yes rv bumpers are not made to hold and thing other then the sticky slinky.

Trailer rear cargo rack/tray/shelf...
This is what we have. It it attached to the points on the frame where the bumper is attached. I see nothing that has a reinforcing bar for a bike.

No the kipper rack does. My parents keystone TT has it. The rack seems stronger less wiggle and has bumper (stoppers) the when u lower the rack the stop it from bending past the bumper . The rack on grey wolfs you have to raise a little to put the pins in the lowering holds.

I did an inexpensive mod on mine that has worked out great. It was posted here in July with pics, drawing and materials list.
