Ceiling mod

While repairing a leaking bathroom vent, I noticed that the ceiling around the vent rough opening is lacking wood framing. I would like to remove some of the foam and inser a wood frame. I feel like this would provide more strength and better attachment for the vent frame. Has anyone tried this?

I haven’t tried it but think this is a very good idea. Please include pics if you do make the mod.

Structurally, there is not much going on there. I'd simply put the new fan frame in per manufacturers recommendations. Adding a wood frame will only add weight. They only minor benefit would be something more substantial to screw into.

Personally, I'd use adhesive on the flanges of the new fan housing. The roof is just a composite, with some ply making a Styrofoam sandwich and glue keeps that together just fine.

What are you going to attach the wood to? I don't see the advantage
