Clothes Falling Mid Trip???

My wife hangs all of her clothes on the clothes rod in the wardrobe next to the bed. Each time we travel all of her clothes fall off the rod and have to be picked up, replaced on the hangers, and hung back on the rod. Has anyone come up with a way to keep the hangers on the rod during travel?

When placing clothes in the closet, put the hanger under and over the rod. If you place them over the rod, sometimes there is too much space between the rod and door and they will fall.

in our closet the big fat round rod allowed the same event on each drive...
so i purchased a piece of ventilated shelving that has the clothes hanger spaces on the double bar
i then trimmed the width and placed it on the ceiling of the closet...now the hangers cant jump up and come un hooked
its about 4" wide vice the normal 12 or 16

I haven't used these myself, but saw them while browsing at Camping World...they look as if the curved part of the hangar snaps onto the rod to help it stay.

One fix is to use the spring loaded rods made for cabinets & refrigerator like shown below. Quick on/off, cheap and works well.

My wife found these hangers at Camping World.
I think they may work better than reg hangers.

Thanks a bunch for all of the suggestions. These have been really helpful. The lucky winner is milzat. The tension rod seems to be the best solution for my situation. There is an equal amount of space on both sides of my clothes rod so they fall off regardless of which way they are hung. And the new clothes hangers are a good idea as well but my wife takes her clothes straight from one closet to the other. Thanks again for all the great ideas.

Wal-Mart has these spring loaded curatin rods quite cheaply in many sizes and the small ones can be cut down to less than 12 inches for book retainers of needed.

I also use them in the fridge to keep stuff from falling onto the door. Makes a mess when the stuff shifts during travel and you are in a hurry to grab a beer.

Face the hangers with the open end toward the direction of travel. Unless you do wheelies or jack-rabbit starts, they will usually stay on unless you get off onto some really bumpy roads or a REALLY steep incline. But the spring-loaded curtain rods do come in handy!
