Counter Extension - My Take

Have the Rockwood 2702 and wanted a "permanent" solution for my counter extension. Like many I didn't have a center wood bar to fasten to, so this is how it went down in case it helps others. I know there are a handful of counter extension posts already, but hopefully this is still helpful and not redundant.

Started here:

And here (minus the big bracket):

Went to this on the extension:

And this with brackets folded in:

This is how I worked the existing counter space:

Wife said I should have cleared all the "stuff" out for the pics, but just didn't want to bother.

The brackets are weight rated to 550lbs as a pair, but pretty sure if my 5 year old or 2 year old decides to hang from it it may go. Let's hope we don't test that. Goal was to get it full time mounted and be able to drop the leg as I think my kids will kick that out of place accidentally more than it will help support. Besides some play in the brackets themselves, feels pretty sturdy.

I called the dealer I bought the trailer from and asked if they had any scrap around. I brought a piece down with me from inside a cabinet to match to. They went back and cut me off a big section. And gave me some sort-of matching seam tape to go with it. Surprisingly, they didn't charge me for anything.

x2 on the looks good. I wish mine didn't have drawers in the end of cabinet or I'd do it to! Nice job

I bought them on Amazon. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There were a lot of options and I'm not entirely sure how I ended on these except they were an Amazon Choice.

I had same thoughts with my Flagstaff 29 RKWS. I replaced the slot hinges with two heavy duty hinges swing hinges from a cabinet builder .Mounted them in the same location as the slot ones. Them I affixed two rubber stoppers on the other end so the extension would not slam against the cabinet when towing. For added safety also have a small bungy type cord that goes over the shelf when towing.
