Digital thermostat eating batteries

I replaced my factory analog thermostat with a supco/CTC/hunter 43054 digital . It works much better but goes through batteries about every 36 hours.

2017 Rockwood roo 17 , thermostat for heat only.

I read something about how there is no constant 24v AC and that is why it runs entirely on battery.

Not thinking I should hard wire 24v so does anyone have suggestions on how to extend battery life , or a different digital thermostat unit which has longer battery life?

Thanks!

I haven't read where anybody else has that problem, so I'm thinking that you got a bad unit.

Is this a thermostat meant for a regular house? House thermostats and trailer thermostats are different. I've never seen a trailer thermostat that needed 24v, or took batteries for that matter.

The thermostat you are using is a residential thermostat that is powered by 20-30VAC and uses the batteries as backup. The specs say Current draw is 0.1 to 1.5 amps so no surprise it is killing batteries quickly.

That thermostat states that it's compatible with millivolt sytems. Millivolt systems don't supply 24vac for thermostat power, so the thermostat has to run off batteries. That's common to a lot of these home thermostats and the batteries last a long time powering the electronics of the thermostats.

That .1 to 1.5 amps is the allowable current of the switch.

Thanks all. I read somewhere years ago that others had good luck with this unit in their RVs so aside from functioning well, it sucks up battery .

What digital units are you all using which don't require 24v constant , or have better battery life ?

I like this unit because it's simple, reliable, and has indiglo backlight.
