Dometic AC ticking down til destruction. Easy Fixes.

I was on the RV adding insulation to the air handler on both Dometic AC units and notice a couple of potential problems.

The 15,000 btu main unit is located on the middle of the roof at an angle. The air handler has built in condensation drip channels on both sides that carry the water to holes on either side of the unit and then drips on the roof. However, since the unit is on an angle, water collects from rain or condensation of the return pipe and drips into the AC tray. There are no holes at the back of the tray and the water pools until if overflows out of the tray. The picture shows how deep the water gets and rust is forming. I drilled a couple holes so the water drains.

The two high pressure lines that feed into the air handler rub together creating flat spots on the copper lines. I slightly bent them pass the clip so they don't rub and put a piece of hose to act as a cushion if they do rub.

Maybe this will keep my AC happy for years to come.

Good find.... From your photos, that unit looks to be on borrowed time. Maybe wirebrush and some rustolium will give you a couple more years.

My AC unit is typical of most MHs and lays flat in the center of the roof. I just had the cover off when I re-coated my roof, I didn't see anything obvious. I think next time I'm on the roof I'll dump some water inside the unit and make sure it drains out.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.
